The Allison trans puts the GM driveline above the rest. It is the only auto trans out there that will stay together when it gets worked on a daily basis.

According to the dieselplace guys, mechanically, it is the same as the LBZ, slightly different programming, 365hp/ 660tq and of course the exhaust particulate trap that they all have to run, the engine designation is LMM.

Still the top dog and the engine has proven to be very reliable. The other two are starting with new engines, hopefully Ford has wised up and gone with full Bosch engine controls and management which seems to be the key to reliability

I read all the diesel mags for the news.
Then you already know that GM is already running a smallblock diesel that has the same dimensions as a 350SBC. So far it is making 330HP and 500tq, same technology as MB's Bluetec, piezo electric injectors firing 5 times per compression stroke, most likely application will be half ton pickups and most SUV's.

Isuzu has been building diesels since the Fisrt World war also. Not really sure why you are hung up on the Isuzu thing.

The Duramax is designed and manufactured in the USA, with some design input from Isuzu. Cummins also went overseas for their most recent light duty pickup diesel engine designs(Bosch).

Check the diesel forums, Dodge has been struggling to get the output from it's new engines and also pass the new emission requirements. I have never dogged the Dodge engine, it's just the rattle box they put it in.

The dodge has nothing for the d max anymore......cummins has now been left far in the dust....that d max motor is a highly refined piece of work.....light years ahead of the cummins tractor motor....nothing against cummins....they are great.....but the d max flows way more...smoother...way far out engineering.....like the computor is cooled by the fuel.....there are a lot of weirdo things like that....I have fired mine for first time last night....mad power...and not even in the boost
