Re: F450 vs. F350 ???
25 hp less, by what the present specs state. Im sure the suspension is different as well.

Re: F450 vs. F350 ???
Bigger stuff in the 450...As in axles, brakes, and gearing. Also the towing ability is higher. Don't quote me on this but the 350 has moved up from 15,500 to 18,500 (i am assuming this is the tow boss) and the 450 is something around 22,000 or 24,000lbs (this could be higher as well) going the top of my head from an article i saw the other day.
as jassman said the motor has less power. the tranny is the same. same type of suspension though i am sure the springs are rated different. |
Re: F450 vs. F350 ???
Buy a GM duramax Jerry..end all the confusion

Re: F450 vs. F350 ???
Probably same motor just slightly more restrictive intake or exhaust that cuts some power. I would do the 450..bigger is always better when towing.

Re: F450 vs. F350 ???
For heavyweight pulling don't do the 450 as the rear ends tend to develop more heat and thus "burn up" faster. If towing heavy stuff consistantly the 550 has a much better record for longevity

Re: F450 vs. F350 ???
Someone should post a laymans chart for the F series citing all the main points, it's always confused the chit out of me as well.

Re: F450 vs. F350 ???
I can only guess, but I think this is Ford's plan:
They see a lot of us towing big boats, trailers, and RV trailers. A lot of folks are also sticking on 19.5 and 22.5 inch rims. I think they made the F-450 a factory consumer pleasing vehicle (King Ranch/Lariat options, factory installed bed, chrome wheels) with high tow ratings and easy wheel swap options (no adapters needed to run 10-bolt wheels) in an effort to entice folks into buying the F-450 with the new engine. It might work, but after their total face-flop with the 6.0 introduction; I would not want to risk a 1st year diesel from Ford, even if I was in the market. Now that these new trucks are falling into all of these new emissions laws and new fuel requirements; all of the aftermarket tuning and parts may change drastically, or come to a halt on new trucks. The 25HP less rating on the F-450 compared to the F-350 is more than likely all in the computer; and can be programmed back in and then some once the tuners get a hold of them. However, this is going to wreak havoc on these new emissions systems. Remember how they added smog pumps and catalytic converters in the early to mid 1970s? This is virtually the same thing with new diesel trucks. If I were shopping, I would be holding onto what I have at least until the 2009 models of the new motors/F-450s and such. You will then have an accurate picture of what aftermarket accessories and tuning will be available as well. |
