How often do you tow that much fountain1fan? That sounds like that same truck I own. Mine is a short bed quad cab, ho diesel 6spd. I have done some work to it so I have no question as to its ability to move it, just some about its ability to control the weight. I am considering buying a trailer for my 330ss Formula I think it will be some where around 14k on the trailer. I would be using it mostly to save on haul out charges and for winter storage. But there is that little devil in the back on my mind that says "Road trip!"

I towed my buddies Powerquest through some serious mountains last summer, we weighed at a truck stop, he was at 12k. No problem with that load. In fact on the worst grade we encountered I passed him towing his mustang on a flat bed trailer with his Avalanche, 8.1L. Like he was standing still, I was in 5th gear!

About 12,000 lbs is what the truck is ratd for.

With Duramax and Allison it will pull like a champ.

The 06 2500HD is rated for 12K behind the hitch and up to 15.9K fifth wheel/Gooseneck with the Diesel. The 8.1 is rated up to 16.1K fifth wheel. Power is definetly not the issue with the DMax.

The receiver assy rating seems to be the limiting factor on GM's 06 light duty trucks as 12K is the limit across all the diesel models.

Simple answer, change out the hitch for a 15K rated one.
