08' GM dually
My local dealer called the other day and said he had the order forms for the new 08 duallys (chevy). He is the owner and a great guy, but sometimes gets a little confused on the details. Does anyone have anything in writing about the towing capacity.Specifically tag along. I am a GM guy and really don't want to switch but last yr the ford was rated at 15k at the hitch which would make me legal. Meaning I would still have insurance if there was ever a problem. I can't imagine GM not raising their's to at least this level but I would like to see it.
Thanks Michael |
Re: 08' GM dually

I like the truck but agree about the tires and wheels. Never understood why they didn't put something nice on them like the fords. I see the 16,500 rating, but that doesn't tell if it is tag along or fifth wheel. I betting the later. I really need to know what the tag along rating is, that is what my new rig is. HELP:D |
Re: 08' GM dually
Check out the 08 Ford F-450. Takes all the worry out of being legal . I drove GM for years but jumped the fence 2 years ago . Very happy with the towing ability .

Re: 08' GM dually
The linked article says 2.5inch receiver with 13k lbs rating; 16.7k for a fifth wheel.
Is the GMC as ugly as the Chevy? I'm a die-hard GM guy, but come on, that's just fugly. Thanks, Michael |
Re: 08' GM dually
I have to agree, appearance of the chevy falls short, i switched to Ford 2 trucks ago and much happier with the ford, Its a real truck, try pulling 24k with a chevy with gooseneck

Very impressive, especially the video's of the turning radius, styling cues and so on. Do a comparision between the two. Check out the interior, tire size, how low of rpms torque peaks at (2,000RPMs) same on hp. Just so you know I was strictly GM till the sales manager pissed me off, he said what you going to buy, you wont buy a Ford, you always put them down. I went over that minute and bought a dually on the lot in 03, and have been swayed ever since. Good luck, you cant go wrong with either. jeff |
Re: 08' GM dually
I also like GM trucks but the front end just looks terrible.

Thats also what I read. I have had GMs since 90, but switched in 03 to ford, and varry my fleet half and half. Both have their plus and minus. Fords truely does a better job for working and pulling. The GM will be smoother just driving around, but as soon as you put 300-500 pounds in the bed or pulling 3k or more thats where the Fords start to shine. The wheels just plain suck on the GM's. The interiors are 10% nicer on the GMs, but I feel that has changed for 07. The Duramax I prefer, it is presently quieter and torquier at lower rpms, but have had less problems with the Ford Torqe Shift tranny and rear end. Take your pick, both good, but I have a F450 on order. Jeff

The truck is totally redone in and out (I ordered one), should be here late January-February of 2007. then again, I'm sure you did your home work before ordering, both are great trucks.....:D Oz |

Re: 08' GM dually
So who's going to step up and be the tester for Fords new Diesel given the history of the 6.0.
They are good looking trucks except the headlights look too small to me in person. |

Wiggler- Truck looks MUCH better in person. Inside these trucks are really nice, will put the Dodges to shame and IMHO have a "GM" look compared to the FORD look the Super Duty has. I would not pull 24 k with any Ford, i would go with the GM 4500/5500. That much weigh demands a TRUE Medium duty truck. Wannabe |
Re: 08' GM dually
Anyone know what a new loaded 08 F450 cost.

Re: 08' GM dually
Just warning all!! Read the hitch recomendations for trailer and tongue weight. I looked at all the 3500's and I also am a Chevy fan but all brands had higher tow ratings than the hitch that came with the vehicle. Ford came with a 2.5" reciever but the hitch was stamped 15K pounds with weight distributing. I owe an 07 Chevy 3500 and the hitch was only rated for 12 weight distributing. So either way I had to throw away the hitch and ended up with a Putnam XDR rated at 15K pounds standard ball and hitch and with also with a standard 2" reciever. Its upsetting to see all the manufactures put on cheeper class 4 hitches on thier trucks that are rated for weights needed only in a class 5 hitch. Just my 02

Re: 08' GM dually
maybe GM puts smaller tires and wheels on their trucks for a lower center of gravity which may help while towing, just an idea.,..

Re: 08' GM dually
Once I seen the new G.M.'s in person the new look grew on me much more so then I thought after first seeing pic's.

Re: 08' GM dually
Did anyone else watch the LSU-ND game last night? Lots of Nissan truck commercials...anybody see a resemblance between the Nissan bumper panels and the Chevy HD bumper panels?
Also, for those interested in a little light reading: http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...07/07truck.htm Scroll to the bottom where the truck engines are. To the right of the engines you'll have links for spec sheets (SS, Excel spreadsheet) and What's New (WN, Word doc). Then to the right of the trans you can find some interesting info as far as HP/Tq capacities, and MAX towing and GCVW numbers too. Thanks, Michael |

I have recently been visiting some dealers looking for a used truck. I had a Ford salesman tell me to stay away from the 6.0 because of problems with them. I was just reading a post on here about someone losing a 7.3 so I guess it can just happen but I just do not want to run into a lot of problems. I use to have a 04 Chevy with the 8.1 gas/Allison and liked the power it had but only had it about a year so I did not get into any reliability issues. I would also consider a Ford with the V10 gas.
