My brother is just starting a complete restoration on his CJ7, a 1979 I believe. It has the factory 304 V8 and three speed. He is going to replace the frame and use an aluminum body. Here are a few links for some Jeep parts places.

And twist the frame into a piece of liquorish:evilb: :evilb: :evilb:

I had a CJ7 for nearly 20 years. You can get the glass bodies with the function tailgates and the one piece hood/fenders that open up the other way allowing for great engine access. Lots of parts to be had and lots of money to spend!!!! Just don't waste any of that money on a 304....

I love it to death! I am just feeling things out to see what way to go. I have had quite a bit of interest in it already, so we will see how things go. If it sells I will find or build a boat to meet the needs. If it doesn't sell I will do the work to the Apache. I am not really in a rush to do anything right now though. If we do the Apache it will not be until after this season anyway.

Nykamp,
I've owned many Jeep's and this one was my latest project. It was a CJ5 with a fiberglass body and was completely gone through and it too had a V8 304/3 spd. I recently sold it to a friend of Kurt Berger's from Kurt's Marine in NJ. Best of luck on your CJ7 and you'll LOVE IT!!! Jeep's are the best!

PS: Go with the side pipes. They sound awesome...

Good luck with your sale.

It is a 95 YJ. Power and transmission came out of a 92 Camaro RS. 305/700R4. I love it and it runs great. Will still do 80 down the turnpike with 36X13.50 tires. Thanks to the pverdrive and the 4.11 gears it is great both on and off road.

thanks, I dont want to change it much, I put just over 4K miles on it in a month, I think I am going to do a 2 1/2 inch suspension lift and maybe 32 or 33's. most of my time is spent onroad though so I'm just not sure if I want to change much..

Thanks, I bought it in 97 and I am finally almost done with it. This is the first vehicle I have owned more than 2 years. Almost 10 years later and I am still not tired of it.

Re: Cj7 Jeeps

if your planning on running a glass body and remotely question the frame , replace it. there redialy available. if you dont your liable to end up with a 4 wheel drive noodle..not good. jeeps are like vw's and sb chevys every concievable part is available aftermarket and at many different quality/price ranges. make sure you get decent stuff. if your ever in an accident or a roll over, I think you will definitley want peice of mind over pieces of body....

Nykamp 01-22-2007 03:01 PM

Re: Cj7 Jeeps

Yep I am replacing the frame, that's my first purchase, hope to have a new one soon. Then I'll buy a lift and start building her, back together.

Sold this one a year ago to get a bigger boat. It was a blast, but something had to go. Spent a lot of money at 4wheeldrive hardware but made alot of stuff myself. Good luck.

This company (link below) had a display at the Lauderdale Boat Show a few months back. He had a killer scrambler, a cj7 to die for and one or two other highly custome projects on display. He does Scouts too. I was impressed.

If you guys have put on lifts, which ones did you like, I was thinking of going 2.5" to 4" suspension. I would like a decent ride, I have a new frame coming in the next couple of days, and will need a lift kit next.

I restored a CJ7 about 15 years ago. The body was rotted like swiss cheese. I put a wranger tub with a sb chevy & used it for plowing. Man that was a work horse. Over the years with the road salt the frame was toast.

Here's a project I started over 15 years ago. Frame and oem steel tub from Texas. Lost motivation. I have all the sheet metal & would be a great project if someone is interested. $1000 takes it !

It has a 305 out of a 1992 Camaro with the 700R4.

Hot Duck 02-14-2007 08:13 AM

We have the body parts for my brother's project, but we are still waiting for the frame to arrive. We are using a Matkins frame and a new aluminum body tub. We had the frame made with motor mounts for a small block Chevy. We are also going from a 3 speed to a 4 speed transmission. I will post pics as we go along.
