and I had no problem at all.

I could even set the cruise control on at 75 mph and it would not even downshift from the overdrive! 5.3 liter engine. NICE truck!
Real fuc&ing bright.

Weight distributing hitch and the airbags will enable a Pinto to haul a 47 footer. Don't you guys ever pay attention?

I use my F-350 dually for towing, but Mary Sue has a 1996 S-15 Jimmy with 200,000 miles.
I use that as my backup tow vehicle.

Say what you want I've worked in the towing industry and spec'd out trucks , My dad has a ram 3500 dually and I'll do the same with it. I'm no IDIOT , I wouldn't even attempt it if the brakes on the trailer where no good. My truck also has rear disk brakes and unless your fool , you always drive with enough distance between you and the guy in front of you, and always drive within your capabilities.
I tow his t/gun, our boats ,and race car trailer, and I go more than 5 miles . In all acuallity I'm pretty impressed with the performance this truck has and its ability. I certainly wouldn't do this in a truck that hasn't been well mantianed or not set up properly. So say what you want I was just putting in my .02, those that know me know that I'm little nuts (hence the name) but still smart enough to know bvetter and I''ll never put someone in harms way. Thanks.

I see and hear a lot of guys on soap boxes talking about safety, truck ratings, tow capacities and so on. I do agree one should have the proper tow vehicle for what they are pulling. Engines and trannys are not the basis for a proper tow rig. Its the chassis that matters.

However, I see people on here calling other people brain dead, stupid, careless, etc, for pulling 10k lb trailers with a half ton. Would I recommend a half ton pickup to pull that load? no. But I wouldnt sit here and criticize someone for doing it. For those of you who have never drove Class 8 trucks, let me tell you that whenever you are pulling trailers that are heavy, the margin for error is minimal. How about the Kenworth tractor going down the interstate at 70mph pulling a big backhoe on a lowboy trailer?? What do you think will happen if he has to swerve suddenly to avoid something? Or that ready mix truck thats fully loaded rolling down main street at 45mph? What do you think would happen if god forbid someone walked out in front of him? My point is just because you have a super extendo monster mega crew cab diesel dually truck, doesnt mean its safe because ITS RATED FOR 20K LB TOW CAPACITY.

I am going to start a towing safety checklist in a new thread. Lets work together to educate ourselves better so we make it to the water safely and no one gets hurt.

I forgot to say I found the brakes were not working at the end of this trip. If I knew before, I would have fix them before.

Would I officially recommend doing long travel all summer long like that? No. But 1/2 ton with brakes on trailer for 6 hours drive once a year... Yes.

thanks again, I appreciate!

Don't forget the speeding (75 mph) and the overloaded weight. And, 20 feet in that configuration is both grossly irresponsible and illegal.

If, on your one trip a year, you have a problem, I'd expect that you'll show up at the family's group funeral and explain to all their relatives and their children's playmates how you only do it once a year and that makes it OK. They'll understand.

If we are going to talk about people being stupid, and doing illegal stuff, why dont we talk about how "Illegal" it is to have beers when driving your boat? Better yet, having a "few" then loading our boat on the trailer and going home from the lake with a "few" in ya. Or how about us go fast guys running full throttle with a boat full of people?

Chris, have you never gone over 55MPH? Have you never had a beer or two while out on your boat? I know I have.

Half tons are for towing 23ft boats, snowmobiles and atvs. Not for pulling big offshore boats. But towing a 35ft boat with a half ton is a lot better than some guys I see pulling 30ft boats with blazers, broncos, and explorers. Now that is scary. At least half tons especially with crew cabs, have a long wheel base, wider track, decent brakes, etc.
