The new brackets have been made for the driving lights. The sit nice and flush in the holes now. The lights and even the light holes almost look like they came on the car right from the factory. This idea turned out really well. Now that the lights are in the correct place, we are making buckets to mount behind them so that the light will not shine up through the grill or around the bumper. The buckets will also fill the gap around the lights so that there is no open space there.
Oh yea, the gas cap came in today as well. It's all about the simple pleasures in life! :D |

Here are the last of the pictures for today. The door panels are almost finished and are about ready to go to the upholstery shop. They are fiberglass, but will be covered with black leather or a similar material that will be decided in the next few days. They have a nice cut out arm rest area and the speaker grills will be flush once the upholstery is done.

Very nice ride. Incredible attention to detail.

Sorry for the gap in the updates, but I have been busy with the boat lately. We went to the poker run in Jacksonville last week and had an absolute blast. Then this week we had the OPA races here in Ocean City and again had a great time!
Anyhow, here are a few more car pictures. The car is on the ground and the engine has been fired! It is at the upholstery shop now having the interior done. When it comes back from there (supposed to be by the end of this coming week) the rest of the odds and ends will be tackled and this project will be all wrapped up. We are going to make a tire change when the car comes back because these tires don't have enough sidewall and they make the car look like a low rider (don't like that look on muscle cars). We are also concerned about the back spacing on the rear wheels. They seem to need to come out a little more because the rear wheel well looks like it ate the tires and wheels. We are going to try different tires first and go from there, but I think we are gonna need to change the tires and swap the rear wheels for a pair with different backspacing to make them fill the wheel well better. I wish I could find an exact copy of the factory rally wheels in this size and width. I found some that were close, but nothing exact. Oh yea, the car is wet in these pictures because it was in the process of being washed before going to the interior shop. I just didn't want you to think that we rolled it out in the rain with no glass installed. |

These were taken this past week. The car is at the upholstery shop. They have all of the structures built and now just need to cover everything. We are doing everything in black except the seats and door panels, which will still be mainly black, but will have some orange and black houndstooth material mixed in. I'll post more pics as we go along.

I think that the engine came out really well. We want it to jump out at you when you open the hood like a diamond in a jewelry box, so we used lots of aluminum and surrounded it all in black. All of the wiring and plumbing lines are hidden and run through the fenders so you don't see hardly any of it. I am really happy with how this turned out. I came really close to going with an LS7, but now I am glad that I didn't because it seems like everybody is installing the LS engines in the old Camaros and Corvettes now. I have seen a lot of them at car shows and in the magazines lately. This engine gives me the same performance, but looks like it belongs in the car.
Now we just need to get the wheel and tire combo figured out we'll be back on track! |
Looks great!

Will try wheel vintiques, they manufacture rally rims up to 20 inches, they can make a custom back space.

what heads are you running on that bad boy? As for the heads, I have no idea what they are. We used a designated engine package and did not spec each piece. I imagine it is on the build sheet though. I will try to find out for you. |

I got some interior pictures today via e-mail, but of the bunch they sent only two came through. We'll try it again tomorrow. In the mean time, here are the two that I have of the door panels and the trunk. The interior is not finished, but they are making great progress. |
Beautifull car!

Thanks Open72. I really like the way it's coming together.
We are going to try this tire when the car comes back. http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=EA9&...ce+T%2FA+KDW+2. We are going to go to a 285/60 18 in the rear and a 235/40 17 in the front. This should give us substantially more sidewall in the rear and an overall taller tire to help fill that huge wheel well. The front won't look much different. The upholstery shop initially said they would be finished this past Friday, but they ended up needing another few days and are telling us that the car will be ready tomorrow. So basically some time this week we should have the car back! :p |

I finally have a few interior pictures to post. Here are the gauges being installed. The factory tach and speedo had the turn signal indicators built into the gauge, so we had to find another place for the indicators with these gauges. One of the guys in the shop made these "bumps" for the indicators to mount in (using fiberglass). The indicators look huge in these pictures because of the angle, but they look great when the panel is in the car.
The third picture is obviously the console. Notice how they got a nice finished look around the air ride controls in the ash tray. Mounted here it slides in the dash completely out of sight when you don't need it, but it still has to look good when you open it, right? |

A few more pictures of the console. The AC controls, radio and console gauges are all installed. We ended up using a hand lever for the parking brake because the roll cage blocks the area where the factory foot pedal was located. The hand lever is tucked in beside the console on the driver's side. One more thing, we are changing to a short shifter boot so that the chrome shaft on the shifter will show like it should.

A better shot of the houndstooth material on the seats and door panels. The Mastercraft seats look like they belong in there now that they match the rest of the interior. I am not crazy about the way they did the radius corners in the back down by the floor. We may be re-doing this to make it look like one piece. Oh yea, the white lines on the upholstery around a lot of the seams is just chalk from marking the fabric. That will be gone when the car gets cleaned up.
We are looking to get the car on the road and start the shakedown miles by the middle of this coming week. The windshield and rear glass are going in on Monday and the rest of the interior should be buttoned up by then as well. Then all that will be left are some small odds and ends on the exterior (trim pieces, wipers, etc.). We are getting close. |
Beautiful man, I'm drooling over here.

Ive been watching this build, great job, and extremely rewarding. It reminds me of my 69 302....I loved that car, but this one looks better. I really like all the custom one off pieces that make it more modern and user friendly, but still keeping some of the old school look. Great project. Jeff

The new tires went on the car today and it will be back on the ground tomorrow. The windshield and rear glass also went in today (a week later than expected due to July 4th). This thing is about 95% complete now. There are still some miscellaneous pieces left to go on the car (seat belts, door panels, rear spoiler, etc), but the car will be taking it's first drive down the road tomorrow (had to wait for a windshield)!!! I'll keep you posted.

Lookin Good !

The car is on the ground and was actually driven today. It was only up and down the driveway and around the neighborhood, but it is good to see it running!
Here are a bunch of miscellaneous pictures of the car that were taken over the past few days. I will load the videos to Putfile and post them here some time tonight or tomorrow. |

We used air bags so that we could change the look of the car whenever we choose. Here are some pictures of the car at different ride heights.
1. Front all the way up (only good for clearing speed bumps) 2. Rear all the way up. 3. Front and rear all the way down. |
3 Attachment(s)
1. Front down just below half way.
2. Rear down half way. 3. The two combined, giving the car a little rake. The settings are infinite, but I like it sitting level front to rear. The control inside the car will let you adjust all 4 bags independently and it also has three preset buttons that you can program. I think that I will set one button for all the way up for speed bumps and parking lot entrances, one button for a nice level ride height and the third button for all the way down. |
Here is a short video of the car coming up the driveway. It ran out of gas as it passed the camera. That 2 gallons didn't last long between firing it up, making adjustments and going for a few short runs. :p

Here is the engine running (one of the many times) before the car rolled outside.

Thanks guys. I have a much longer video (plenty of gas this time), but it is in some kind of new DivX format and I cannot get it to post here or on Putfile. It had to be compressed in this format so that it could be e-mailed. I can view it on my computer, but I don't have a way to convert it so that it can be posted on Putfile or on here. Any ideas?
|
I found some software to convert the video file. I was only able to upload half of the video because of the size, but it is still longer than the other one. Like the others, this video is not the best quality (it was taken with a regular digital camera), but it is OK. For those that are going to ask, the tan strips under the doors are from the paper and tape there to protect the door sills from scratches until the car is finished.

More pictures from today. There are still some minor pieces left to install, but they shoud be on in the next few days. It goes tomorrow to have the AC charged and to get the alignment done. Then on Monday it goes back to the painter to have the final buffing done. After that it is just a matter of putting some miles on the car to find and fix any problems and we can call it finished! Anyhow, here are some pictures from today with the car about half way between fully slammed and normal ride height.
