pullmytrigger 07-16-2007 09:42 AM

hey....you'll have to give us some driving impressionswhen you get it all up and running......power, handling, ride, noise level, A/C performance......how it compares to other cars you have driven

Hot Duck 07-17-2007 12:23 PM

They took the car to the paint shop yesterday afternoon so it could get the final buffing today. Here is the update I got yesterday from the shop owner (restoration shop, not the paint shop owner).

I have put about 100 miles on the car and in driving it up to the paint shop I got to test the handling on one of my favorite big sweeping 2 lane ramp that makes a 270 degree constant rate turn off of 202 on to 422. Now my XLR, which is based on a Corvette chassis, I can get around the ramp at 48 mph on a good day ---holy ******-- the Camaro did it today at a little over 55 and it just didn’t care--no push, no tail wiggle, no nothing, it just went around the ramp like a slot car—it could have easily done it at 60mph. Now I was being very careful and knew it could easily match the XLR’s speed but this thing makes my XLR look like a station wagon!

Ride is comfortable, A/C works great. New Hurst Shift handle is in place and looks great and I think you will like the height.

When the car comes back I will take it to the interior people for the shift boot and then do some more driving.

Current issues – radio antenna has to be moved because of poor reception, dripping out of rear seal of differential- remove cover and re-seal with new gasket.

We are still on schedule to wrap up this project next week

I am proud to announce that it is now 100% finished!!! The car has just over 100 test miles on it now and all of the odds and ends have been wrapped up as well. I will be doing the final inspection this week and then the car will be coming home!

From this, to this, to this. What a great trip it has been. The best part of this whole thing, other than driving the car now, is that the final product is a brand new car (or maybe better than it was when it was new) that will last another 40 years!

It's a shame the Top Gun is gone. There might have been a deal in there somewhere. :p

I know, but it is safe to dream about it!

Hot Duck 08-20-2007 07:51 PM

So far so good. Just over 400 miles without a problem (and no tickets yet)!

Perlmudder 02-26-2008 07:37 PM

man, that car is so unbelieveably sick, amazing job, you are one lucky man with that car and the apache

Hot Duck 02-26-2008 11:08 PM

I really love this Camaro. It drives and handles like a new Corvette and has all the modern comforts to boot. The car was 11 years in the making. I drove it for years all beat up and patched together, but I still had fun with it. When I bought it, I put together a list of what I eventually wanted the car to be and started collecting parts here and there as I could. Last year, when I had the necessary parts to get the job done, we went at it and knocked it out. I can honestly say that it was well worth the wait.

I love the play toys and the lucky thing is that I have a wife that tolerates this addiction. Like I have said in other threads, this is why I really can't complain about her wanting me to sell the Apache for another boat with some kind of cabin. She isn't nagging about it or anything. She just said that she would like a cabin and more creature comforts on the boat, so I don't see any reason why I can't make that happen. I will tell you that when I feel bad about having the Apache for sale, I go out in the garage, look at the other toys and count my blessings. A lot of time, sweat and money have gone into the Apache, but there are a lot of nice performance boats out there with cabins. I am sure there is one somewhere that will give me the same joy that I get from the Apache and make the rest of the family happy at the same time.

That's a great attitude, and BTW an awesome car. Many times like you stated above we all take things for granted, and dont realize how lucky we truely are compared to some. It also helps to have wives that love our toys as much as we do. My wife loves boating and fishing so she just got a CC for her first boat, and that's all she talks about. Should be another fun packed year. BTW, did I say I really like that Camaro:cool-smiley-011:Jeff

glad it turned out like you envisioned when you started......that doesnt always happen.......very cool!!!!
