Per Edmunds.com; the 1994 3500 Dually is only rated to tow 10,000 lbs.

Yeah, sounds about right, I seem to recall that the torque rating of that 454 around that mid 90's timeframe was about 385....the Dodge V10 was rated at 450 and had much higher tow ratings.

A new dually will pull 14,000 legally with a goosneck/ 5th wheel setup

Did the pull off happen? I love stuff like this, if only one truck was a Ford it would be the perfect alcohol induced madness that amuses me. My cash is on dually, no doubt.

Hey guys, thanks for all the figures. Never knew there was such a big difference in the tow capacity between the 6.0 and the 8.1 even tho they're in the same chassis.

The pull off will be next week, as soon as one of them gets back from vacation.

Here is the best part. NEITHER ONE OF THEM can tow a 41 Apache legally; so its a stupid mute point.

You called that one!!!

I own a '05 Avalanche 2500, 8.1, 4X4, 4.10 gears. It pulls my 29 Baja Outlaw just fine. I don't know how much bigger boat I'd want to pull with it, certainly not a 41 Apache. I just sold a '92 GMC 3500 454 crew cab dually 4X2, 4.1 gear truck. The 8.1 is definately stronger than the 454 but the long wheel base & dual rear wheels was much better for towing a big boat. Tell your dumb friends that there is much more to towing than pulling power. Hooking them together may just result in a lot of tire smoke on both trucks.

If the Avy is a 6.0 definately the dually. From what I have seen the 6.0's are only good for burning gas. I had a 96 crew cab dually chevy and it pulled great, nice and stable too. The 94 is non vortec though.

What crack head would try and tow a apache with a avalanche...:evilb:

dmaxx3500 03-27-2007 10:52 PM

ha, ill bring my 06' chevy d/a cc 4x4 daully and show both of them how a real truck pulls a boat, really an avalanche is a taheo and has too short of a wheelbase to tow 45-50' of anything safely,a daully at least can handle the tounge weight and has bigger brakes that at least keep with the load
