The AV has either 3.73 rear end or 4.10 rear end. This can be verified by looking in the glovebox and finding GT4 (3.73) or GT5 (4.10) in the build codes. The worst part about the 2500 Avalanche is the 496's timing is retarded to reduce power/torque when the truck is in first gear (manually in 1st or while starting in drive), to protect the transmission. The 4L85E was designed for the 6.0L; and the 496 with full power will rip first gear out of a 4L85E transmission. Diablo Predator Tuner can be used to take some of the power reduction out, but some of the reduction still remains. |
Junk! I have one ...the only thing to do is add a supercharger

The brakes on the older chevy duallys sucked. The front rotors warped a couple times a year. They were to small.

Know of anything to help the 6.0 in a h2?
http://www.predatormotorsports.com/i...on=Custom&ID=6 http://www.stallioncustoms.com/h1h2dudico.html http://www.powerplayperformance.com/...des_GM/20.aspx A couple of the SC companies also offer H2 packages, but the 6.0 is pretty well computer tweaked as it comes out of the factory. You might try a Diablo Predator tuner, but don't expect much. |

This whole story is Hilarious. I am with Sydwayz and who ever else stated the plain and simple fact that it would be totally illegal for either one of them to be pulling a 41' Apache.
I also find it amusing that they are pulling it without a diesel powered truck. On that note, a buddy of mine has a 2500 chevy silvarado (I think it's an 06) with the allison and duramax and his is rated at 12,000 lbs towing Cap, So how the hell is the Avalanche rated the same as the Diesel powered pickup? As far as true weight of the boat trailer combo is concerned it could conceivably be much higher than 14,000lbs. Apache weights very greatly depending on each individual boat. Mark M's 41' is very light but there are some that weigh over 12k alone. My 36' Alledgedly weighs 10,000 dry. My 38' eagle trailer alledgedly weighs 3,040lbs. When I hit the scales with mine it was actually just under 13,000lbs and had a little over a quarter tank of Fuel. So, If I was full of fuel I would actually weigh just under 14,000. I would say that the 41' should be more like 16,000 unless it has an aluminum trailer. I pull mine with a Dodge 3500 with a cummins in it, the 4.1 gears and that pulls it and stops it just fine (any bigger and I would not feel so comfortable). When I weighed my GCVW was nearly 21,000. Sydwayz seems to know a lot about this subject but my guess is that as a tag along without a weight distributing hitch I am actually probably just in the Illegal zone. The owners manual on my 2005 says the max rating is 15,850 and combined at 23,000 but I would guess that is on a goose or a fifth wheel. I am rambling on a tangent now but the moral of the story is that neither one of those trucks have any business pulling that boat on a public roadway. I also have a 99 f250 powerstroke that is all chipped up and I would not think of using that to tow my 36' apache on any public roadway so an avalanche pulling a 41' just boggles my mind. Thanks for all the technical know how Sydwayz, You definately know your stuff! |
there was a guy i used to see in barrington il., he had a cj-7 jeep and towed a 32' cabin crusier, you could barely see the jeep in front of the boat as you drove around him,,i probuly saw him 20-30 times coming and going to fox lake on sats and sundays,a 1/2 ton av pulling a 41' anything is a little better then that ,but not by much

baywatch, what is the factory hitch itself on the Dodge 3500 rated for? I looked into buying a Dodge at one point, but did not get that far in my research. Does it have separate ratings for WD and WC?
Per Putnam and a GM contact, if you upgrade to a Class-V hitch, you can effectively and legally raise the WC rating of your truck's tow rating to equal what it would be with a full WD hitch setup. Thanks for the compliment. The internet is a great resource for tracking this stuff down; as well as personal experience. (Had a 2-door Tahoe, 2500 Avalanche, and now a PSD F-350 Dually.) |
Dodge doesn't say they just boast about the capacity, without any specifics. I asked the sales guy when I bought it and he assured me that it could pull a 13 or 14000lb boat and trailer combo. The problem was that he was very vague and a freaking half ton will pull it, but not legally, safely, or quickly.
I am trying to find out for sure the specifics although I am contemplating getting one of the new dodge's so I don't want to replace the hitch if I am going to turn around and get a new truck. I pulled it 600 miles when I picked it up and it pulled it fine. However, ignorance is not bliss and I would like to know that I am doing things legally. Next week I have to haul it a couple hundred miles so I would like to make sure I am doing that in a legal manner. I sent a couple emails and called the dealer, so I will see what they can definitively tell me. I am going definately need to beef it up or beef up the new truck if I get one. I just want to cover my A** for next week and it would be nice if I am within my range. She is very empty on fuel at the moment and I have some of the seats out of it so my boat and trailer combo should be at right about 13k or just under. Thanks again for all the knowledge you share with us. |
