I towed my 35' nordic with my hummer h2. The hummer was supercharged, larger tires, and brakes. The Hummer had no problem with the power, and braking, but I fried the transmission The first time towing over 100 miles.
The transmission is definately the weak link. The other thing to look at is the hummer is not rated to tow the weight, and would open you up to liability if in a accident. I sold mine, and bought a Ford 650. no problems any more. |
No problems towing with mine....but im only towing a 25 with 5500 lbs

If you install some 4.56 ring gears in the hummer and put a transgo shift kit with billet servos and flex plate etc....and baby it up on ramps you will get along. I think you are over the towing capacity at any rate.

If I remember correctly, the H2 is only rated for 7500 lbs. I was going to buy one until I checked that, so I bought a dually, and love it. If you are towing over the rated capacity, you may not be covered by your insurance. Not that any of us have ever done that.

this question is no quite as extreme as most but when you figure the towing weight has to be over 10,000 pounds easily
it reminded me of a post by Chris Sunkin "I swear to God the next motherfuc&er that posts a "can I pull a Cary 50 with a moped" post, I'm gonna fly to where they're at and beat 'em like a circus monkey." |

and a 25ft single engine boat is really the limit. the 3/4 ton 6.0 with the 4le80 wont tow much bigger than a 30ft twin engine boat. 38ft boat get the big block or diesel. Gm does have a new 6 speed on the 6.0 and they upped the hp. but I will wait till its proven or if I ever get a 30+ ft boat :D |

Tow rating is dictated by wheelbase/stopping ability. That is why the different model trucks have different tow ratings with similar power. The key is stopping. The H2 can tow more than its rated capacity but is limited to 7500 due to its wheelbase. In answer to your question ... yes it can easily tow the Fountain. I towed my Gladiator with no issues. However, I wouldn't tow this kind of weight with surge brakes. You need electric brakes biased towards the trailer. This setup makes the downhill grades manageable. Without it ... forget it.

I have an 06 H2 and I plan on towing my 377 Talon with it this year (short distances) I'll let you know how it works. BTW, it already smoked a tranny at 10k miles, never off-road, never towed anything  gotta love that 4/50 warranty.
