Just got back from the dealer. In short, if I were in the market for a half ton truck, the Tundra would be a no brainer (for me). The features and capacities are outstanding and typical Toyota. The big three are in trouble especially when they come out with the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. This is an over-engineered 1/2 for sure.

Michael1's post and link is great for helping calculate the true capacity of the truck.

Looks like I'm into another Ford 3/4 or 1 ton, or if I can keep my POS on the road for another year ( ) I'll wait out Toyota for the 3/4 ton. Ford 3/4 tons with gas engine are in the $37K (add tax and other garbage too) range which is more than I want to part with at this time...unless a few more contracts come my way

Pete...see you at the ramp this year...still have your Scarab?

Injector O rings, cam sensor, fuel sender unit, new transmission this year. Axel joints, new hubs, shocks, rotors/brakes, diff cover, last year. I'll need a new rear end, tires, and running boards this year Granted it's a '99, but it's a F350 PSD that has towed below its limit for 3 years, and a 28 Nordic before that. It's a contracting truck with only 90k and my daily driver too and has been well cared for.

I call it getting the shaft from American auto manufacturers for years.

I would say those are very non typical repairs and shouldnt have happened.....you probably just had a lemon. I cant say I ve ever heard of such luck for a "lightly" used vehicle. Did you have the motor pumped up?

Toyota just recalled 3.3 million vehicles for sludge buildup as mandated by the courts. Doesn't that make you want to just go out and get one.

My Chevy 07 1/2ton z71 says the towing capacity is 10,500. But the gross combined weight rating is only 13,500 lbs. Truck weighs a little over 5,700 lbs - so that really only gives me 7,800 lbs trailer wieght. I know that you can't pull a 10,500 lbs trailer with a 1/2 ton truck.

Bone stock since day 1. And my towing is about 100 miles per year, very local.

Get a GMC/Chev with the 100,000 mile warranty, there should be some new 2006/7's around with the Duramax.

The Ford Super Duty has had issues w/ front axle, ball joints, etc. wearing out at 75 k miles.

The cam sensor and innjector are a suprise. You have the 7.3 usually a bullet proof motor.

Transmission, well the Allison will solve that.
