Python is a re boxed Viper. All dei brands are the same or similar with the exception of clifford. Viper does have the lifetime warranty but as stated only if installed by a legit dealer. I have sold the Viper brand for 18 years and think they make a first class product. If you want something a little tricker , Clifford has some neat features but you need a lot more wiring and a pc and software to program. The viper you can program with the valet switch , I use their handheld programmer , much easier. Instal on your truck is pretty straight forward. Lots of diodes to isolate the door triggers at the bcm , thats the only thing. There is no real good tach source on the 6.0 , sometimes it works , sometimes it doesn't. I have to use a tach generator on the alt 1 in 10. Can help you with the wire colors if you need when you choose an alarm.

check out the Clifford though. www.directed.com

We are a DEI and Omega shop primarily. You can't go wrong with either of them. If you want a full featured setup, take a look at Hornet 564T's. Does everything you want (with optional accessories), 2 way pager, decent range, etc etc. They can be found for ~$150.

I do have some beefs with DEI though. You'll have wires coming out of 3 of 4 sides of your brain. Other manufactures are able to use 1 or 2 side, which makes tidyness and cable routing far easier. Their lock outputs are underpowered and they don't have a pre-delay option for diesels, instead you have to use a DPT. Again, other manufactures (Omega for example) have a programmable predelay of 10 or 20 seconds, or via the wait to start wire, but on the new trucks the clusters are all digital and you can't pull a wait to start. Also, DEI's voltage sense is generally garbage, where Omega's is far better. Using voltage sense saves running another wire under the hood to pull a tach and is generally a time saver for us.

You may want to check out the Omega MaxE w/ the Echo2 upgrade. It doesn't have as many features as some of the DEI units, but then again, IMO DEI has a lot of useless features and doesn't have what should be some standard features (such as a solid voltage sense and diesel delay option). Had I done it over again, I probably wouldn't have used a DEI system. In fact, when I find a Dodge or Chevy 2500 (diesel of course), I'll be installing the MaxE system.

I can totally understand that. Unfortunately, it seems like it's getting harder and harder to find a reliable shop that cares. I pride myself and my store and the guys that work for me. Meanwhile we get jacked off customers from the guy down the road that only wants to make a buck. It seems very hit and miss. I'm in a slightly more niche market though, as we cater to primarily trucks, though we do a lot of car remote starts during the winter.

Good luck with the install.

Ultimate Audio installed an Autopage RS-860 lcd unit in my 06 F350 6.0 and the remote start has never failed me and it has excellent range. and the alarm has worked fine, and was noticibly less expensive and less complicated than the Viper, and for what its worth, on my 04 F250 I tried the ford marketed unit(mfg by Code Alarm) and it was the biggest pos I ever saw, no range, inconsistent remote starts, etc.
Not gospel, just my opinion from personal experience.

The tach wire under the dash on the 6.0 has worked perfectly for me since day one. I actually find it to be the easiest Diesel to install a remote start on. Although we don't even need a tach wire on the Duramax or Cummins.
