You can try putting higher gears in it. It will take a little longer to get up to speed but once there, you won't be turning as many rpm's on the highway and get better fuel economy. Just an idea.

What gear ratio??? I'm in a 07 F350 with 4:10 getting about 10 and ony use the truck to tow. Most of my trip is highway and I'm running 75 but up in the RPM around 2,300-2,400.

BTW: I kinda agree with the fuel/cost issue.....it's a expensive toy, is 3 MPH really that big a deal????

Check with somebody that is an HPTUNER authorized shop. The DPF and regen are kiiling the newer trucks for fuel mileage. A little tune and you should get better along with a taller tire to get rid of some gearing.

HHMMM Ford F450 2008 model 4 weeks old, we had one stolen from us at the strip Club friday night. Valet tried to deny taking the keys and parking it, then we pulled the security camera. The valet not only parked it but left the keys out for two others to grab and steal. We know the valet was in on it but here in S. FL, as soon as they know they did somehting wrong they forget English. Bunch of crap, makes you rethink parking a expensive car/truck with some one who works for tips.

Hate to break it to you ......you will never see more than 8-9 on that rig if it ihas 4.88 rearend.....maybe you could d squeeze 10 if you are pullin on the flat and under 65 mph with a 4.30....Check out this site www.thedieselstop.com of info over there, yes the fuel miliage sucks!

This is why I am keeping my 2001 7.3 Dually.

So 10,000 miles a year towing at 7MPG = 1429 gallons at $3.00 a gallon = $4,287. 10MPG = $3,000 annually. You cannot afford $1,287 annually or $107 a month? I do not understand these arguments given the type of total expenditures to pursue this hobby. I sold my new truck with 600 miles on it and lost $12,000 in depreciation.....but it saves me $1,287 a year? WTF?? What I can't figure out is that people say crap like this and yet somehow figure out a way to earn or borrow $500K worth of equipment??
Can you really blame Roger? That mileage stinks. I drove a fully loaded 26' International box moving truck that got better mileage a few weeks ago, and that was at 70 mph on the governor. Even if you can afford it, that's no reason to waste money. Unfortunately, he's stuck with the depreciation unless he keeps this pig.

I guess the lesson learned here is check with others to see what kind of mileage they are getting before buying.

Listen guys, I probably tow more in a year than you others do in 5 years. I have a 42 foot motorhome that weighs 35,000 pounds, with a 525 cat and it gets 8 miles per gallon pulling a car. I have (2) renegades one with a 425 cat and the other with a 450 Mercedes pulling a 44 and 45 foot parts trailer and they get 6.5-7.50 grossing 42000 pounds. I also have (2) 2002 Ford f-350 duallys that average 10-12 MPG towing around 12000 pounds. YES I am complaining about the milage NOT BECAUSE I CAN NOT AFFORD IT, but because it AINT RIGHT.....

The F450 is nice!! Its expensive though! The fuel mileage is really bad on all of the 07+ diesels due to emissions. The new 6.4 is still up in the air. I have seen two in person and they look sharp. Both were also complaining about fuel mileage. I am sure the factory will have some reflashes soon. I think they already have tuners out for them.

I have heard about computer upgrades. Does anyone out there have one and how much did it help?? Matthew Smith bought an air cleaner kit for his 350 for 400.00, said it helped one MPG. Bullydog has an upgrade for 550.00 but he said only 1-2 MPG. Has anyone tried either??

here is a great forum with good info... http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbt...rd=64upgrades1 Scroll down through the pages. I use the SCT from Innovative diesel. www.innovativediesel.com talk with eric the owner or Ted. Straight shooters will go out of their way to make you happy. I have their tunes on 4 of my trucks.
