Thanks for the input so far. |
I've got an 05 F-350 V-10.I pull a 33' Outlaw and it does a great job.I had a 2000 250 with a 7.3 and I think this truck pulls better.I get a little tired of the gas vs diesel debate,yes you can tow with a gas engine,it's quiet,doesn't smell,and it's a $650 option not $6500.

Good point, it can certainly be done, done well with a V-10 like the Ford. But you must admit, towing long distance, and over several years, the diesel is gonna outlast the gasser. But for shorter pulls it makes sense.

I pull my 28' trailer with an 06 Dmax loaded with 5 ATV's with a gross weight T&T of about 21K and I get 12MPG going 75. The enclosed trailers pull harder than a boat but not 8 MPG http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...g/P6170025.jpg |
the V10 must be a very reliable workhorse or about 20+ RV builders wouldn't be using it... try and find a 7.3 or 6.0 in a Ford chassis under 34' in an RV, 80% or more in this size have to be V10's pushing a LOT of air and weight, impresses me that's for sure...

Had a '00 250 with the 5.4 and had no problem towing my 32. Had to leave the OD off though and keep the rpm's up. Averaged 11mpg towing. Now have a '03 with the V-10.
Nothing to brag about. I was expecting a huge difference. Wasn't there.... other than now towing in OD. It still likes to haunt at times in/out of OD. The trans temp nevers raises, so I leave it in OD. Fuel ecomomy is less than my V-8 was. Do the newer V-10's still have the spark plug blow out problem? Only about 3 threads hold them in and they have to be torqued to specs. |
I have a 2006 f250 V10 with the 4.10 's and it pulls my 29 baja outlaw with ease. The V10 3v motor is tough and reliable. I only tow my boat about 12 times a season. towed weight 9 to 9500 lbs.....gas is an option....diesel is better if towing all the time.

I pulled my 43 Scarab with both a 6.0 & a v-10. I didn't go far the 6.0 was better after I put the Superchip in it. I now have a 08 6.4 dually & it's the best over both. That is my 06 v-10 in front of my GTX.
