Ok...I looked at the Chevy and the Ford today. It's a no brainer for me, I much prefer the '08 Ford. Does anybody pull any significant weight with the gas engine? The upcharge for the diesel is quite healthy ($6k or so). I have a PSD now (7.3) and it tows the 33' PowerPlay well, how would the gas engine do? I've had a couple of Ford gas engine people tell me not to bother with the gas because they don't have much power.
Chevy 6.0 Vortech gas 353 hp/373 torque
Ford 5.4 Triton 300hp/365 torque
I tow the boat short distances most of the time. It's hilly as heck around here and some balls go a long way. But is $6k difference worth the diesel?
Also, what do you think of a 5 speed? Save some $$ and there's no transmisson issues.

I trhink you've asked a very, very good question.... I have an '06 Dmax now and with the price of fuel and the $$$$$ surcharge for the Dmax option, i'd be hard pressed to do it again. I drove an 08 Ford with a V10 a few weeks back with 4.10's and it would work for me. You can also get 4.30's with the 18" or 20" tires... 6k in surcharge goes a LONG way for fuel expense, it would take over 200k in diesel miles to break even over a V10... the V10 is no longer a negative at trade in time either... just my .02

I can't speak for the 08's but I have an 06 Ford 250 Super duty Diesel crew cab and I pull a 382 Formula. I would not want to pull that weight with a gas engine.
Just returned from a 1,370 mile round trip pulling the boat and I was sure glad I had the diesel. Just my input...

I don't know about you, but everytime I pull a hill towing something I think of how glad I am to have a diesel. I wouldn't have the patients to go back to a gasser. I'd spend the extra 6k plus the Allison or Ford auto tranny. I've heard manuel trannys aren't the must they used to be.

We Just Picked Up A 07 GMC Duramax Allison 2500 Series 4 Dr Short Bed ,Put 400 miles on it Around Town 15+ Miles Per Gal,Hooked Up A 24Ft Trailer With 5 Harleys Inside To Go To Sturgis The Fuel Mileage Sucked Only 8.9 Per Gal, Had To Stop Every 190 Miles To Get Fuel Would Not Recomend A GMC /Chevy Would Like To Burn It

Had an older ford f350 with v10.Towed my 38 scarab 300 miles each way to havasu and back and would still have fuel left over. Not bad considering the weight and size of the boat.Oh,I forgot to mention it had 6" with 37 hummer tires, was also a crew cab and we would do 70.Thats including the indio grade outside of palmsprings thats about 30 miles up hill!
