no doubt 9k is alot with a 1/2 ton...my 29 scarab with twin small blocks was 6300 plus the trailer

Actually, the big problem with the '94 was the injection pump as it was the first year they went all electronic on it. I had mine in the shop about every 70K miles getting a pump done on it. There is a forum dedicated to the 6.2/6.5 diesels with lots of great info.

I had my '94 crew cab 3500 for 6 years and put 245K miles on it. Still one of the best trucks I've owned. Just don't get used to towing up hills fast. ;)

I had 2 6.5 3/4 ton Suburbans. Other than sounding like a popcorn machine, I had zero problems with them.

Pretty rare truck you've got there. Have only ever seen a couple of them in 3/4 form, even less as a half ton.

basically a 3/4 ton rear & suspension with a beefier trans

Tow in 3 if you have an automatic- NOT OD.

You will have to beef the rear springs and a heavier hitch.

They mostly put 8500 lb hitches from factory - not enuff for you.

I would say the sonic is at least 8000 lbs plust trailer- they are known for being a heavy boat. Alumimum trailer will help. Good luck.

Thanks guys, I had read on a couple of different sights about the injector pump being a problem. Actually, I didnt read anything good about them. I`m glad to hear at least a couple good words. It was cheap as hell and if it holds up mechanically it should fit the bill!

I have worked on a couple mid/late 90's 1/2 ton chevy trucks with the 6.5 turbo diesel. For all practical purposes they really should be called 3/4 ton trucks as they had 9.5" rear ends and 4l80e transmissions,the same transmission the chevy HD uses with the 6.0 motor or at least the earlier version of it. If the vehicle has 3.73 or 4.11 gears I would tow in od the same as you would if it was a diesel dually of the same era. I think your thinking of the earlier 6.2 trucks with the 4l60/4l60e (700r4) when you say not to tow in OD,GM never put a 6.5 turbo in front of anything other than a 4l80e or stick shift which were both their heaviest duty transmissions at the time,Smitty

thats boat, steel tandem, 1/2- 3/4 fuel and all our chit (coolers, life jackets, sleeping bags,anchors, tools etc) for the weekend......wieghed truck and boat/trailer.....then came back and wieghed the truck......its an 89/29......massive stringers in the engine compartment.....same as 42.

most people think they know but actually have no idea what their boat wieghs.......if you had of asked me before I would have said boat and trailer wieghed 8000

changed exhaust and took 200lbs off that number though!!
