Insurance job..

The truck locked?? with the boat attached??? Maybe the door was locked and it was in reverse and the driver couldn't get back in to put it in park and set the brake... That would make sense. The way I remember it, a day of fishing always equaled a day of drinking.
WTF does that mean anyway? The truck was locked if they don't mean the doors? |
Is the new Ford such like some other cars, that if you shut the doors the they remain unlocked, but as soon as your reach 5mph or so, they lock as an "anti-car-jacking feature"? This would make some sense, as many cars and car alarms have this as an option.
If the truck was an automatic, and it was left in reverse, this could be very viable. Still does not explain why it started rolling, unless the emergency brake broke, or got too wet and began to let the truck roll. That truck should have disc brakes in the back. Does the emergency brake work like a shoe on the inside of the brake disc on newer Fords? |
I bet the driver "accidentally" left it in reverse and then "accidentally" locked the door as he got out of it(far enough up the ramp I might add as to keep from getting wet) to check on something the other 2 guys standing right there could not and the truck "accidentally" rolled back into the water totalling it.

None of it makes any sense...if the guy "left it in reverse" and tried getting out he wouldnt make it half way out the door before realizing it was in reverse....been there done that so i cant see it happening. The only way i can see this whole deal going down is if the truck was in park without the e-brake on, and the locking mechanism broke in the trans and let it roll and no one was close enough to the truck to stop it from rolling in....other then that it smell like a Ins job to me...

Must have wanted to get rid of that Ford if it wsa an insurance job
|
the only way the doors could have locked was if it was in reverse, and the auto-lock feature was turned on...
which means he didn't put it all the way in park, and jumped out, and it was in reverse, the door closed, and locked, and glub glub glub |
At the ramp @ SML, my wife, who is normally excellent @ trailer backing up, left the truck in "D" and got out; it took about 3-4 seconds, before the truck started to roll backwards down the ramp. The door was open and I yelled as soon as I noticed it; she got in, no harm done. But if the door had been closed it could have been ugly. But once the boat hit the water it should slow the whole rig down, or stop it altogether. The doors must have been locked or it was intentional.

Surely the boat in drive at idle could have held the thing from further sliding all the way in until another vehicle could yank it out???
I saw a 12 yr old kid put his dads 42 fountain on the trailer one day... when the dodge reg cab 2WD dually could not get traction to pull it up the ramp, the kid fires up the motors and helps the process along. a little dangerous, but he didnt give it much power, got everything shut down before the drives were out of the water...... |
