I'm gonna guess that the trailer was originally for a 35'-ish foot boat and included a full drive guard; and it now houses that 38. Hence, the boat had to be moved back on the trailer, and the tail was REALLY wagging the dog. Shade-tree engineer solution = another axle "way-back-'dere".

Trailer is a Baron. Early 80's vintage. Made for a 30' boat. Check out those 5-lug hubs.

It's connected to a pickup truck. Every yard trailer I've ever seen has a single axle. Why would you want four?

i take care of 30 yard trailers and they all are double or triple axle. that one must have super bearings

Maybe he uses it just to pull in and out of the water on a crappy launch and doesn't want his surface drives to dig in.

I will say that it looks crappy with mismatched wheels on it, but at the risk of losing all credibility on here (since everyone else hates it) I don't see what's so terribly wrong with it. Yeah it'll scrub in turns, but it'll track great on the freeway, and more axles does mean better load capacity... I dunno guys, what's so terrible about it other than the shlocky mismatched execution?
