I am having some problems with my new truck. Does anyone else's 450 lose turbo boost at about 82 mph?? In mid October the truck split the radiator and left me stranded on the road with a trailer. Then I had a friend deliver my boat down to Florida a couple of weeks ago and he tells me something isn't right with the truck. Like I said, it loses boost at 82, but also seems to have less power than it did. The entire passenger side and rear of the truck are also covered in exhaust residue. I took it into the dealer, and after a couple of days they told me that it need new exhaust gas coolers. Never heard of these, but I'm no mechanic either. They said it will be a couple of weeks because they are going to have to come right from the assembly line. This doesn't really make sense to me . Then when I asked about the truck losing boost they told me that is the governer kicking in and is normal. There have been alot of threads on OSO about these trucks and I don't recall any about speed regulation. Any info you guys have is appreciated.

What possible reason would you have for going (or even wanting to go) 83 mph in an F450?

You know Chris I thought you used to be a smart guy! The NT 3600's need to go over 80 to pack air in the tunnel so it rides on top when being towed!

Yes the truck is speed limited to 82 mph I was told due to the tires.

Yep my 450 only does 82mph.

82 is it you might check with some of the tuner companys to see it is able to be overridden with a hand held.

6.0's have an issue with popping the intercooler hoses. They have also had some turbo issues. These can push oil out and it could find its way onto the exterior. some years have a recall for an updated inlet transfer tube- from the intercooler output.

I have no idea what an exhaust gas cooler is. There's an intake cooler (intercooler) and conceivably it could be bad.

The way the truck limits speed is by cutting back on fuel supplied to the motor. Less fuel equals less energy in the exhaust stream which makes the turbo spin more slowly. Technically, that cuts boost.

ford and chevy both have limited thier medium duty line to about 80 to 82 should be happy it used to be 74. all in the name of insurance and lawsuits.
