Does anybody have a suburban that they are towing with? If so what motor is in the sub and how does it tow? What kind of a boat / equipment are you towning with it?
Thanks,
James

I have two.......

one is a 94 3/4 ton 4x4 with a hopped up 6.5 diesel........which is for sale.....not enough power and too expensive to fix......handling wise the truck pulls the boat easily......big hills, thats another story.
the other is a loaded 88 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 350 TBI that I will swap out and probably put a built for torque carburated 350 or 406 in......the reason......cheap.......from headlights to motors and trannys.....cheap......it needs a gas tank.....$68!.... I have a big shop and can work on it myself.......it only tows the boat......we love the Sub platform
I cannot justify payments on a 40g truck that is not a daily driver and I wouldnt own any modern diesel off warranty.....I tow a scaled 9500......doug
the 90' in the pic is not mine but it will look like that when Im done but all black

We have used my wifes 01 1/2 ton suburban to tow my 25 powerplay, 5770lbs on the scale. Tows great and we actually started using it more over my F250 V-10. It's much more comfortable and got 14mpg towing to Lake Cumberland through KY.

I have a 1995 K2500 with a 454, 204,000 miles towing a 26' Suphen (5000lbs full) on a tandem axle trailer. It's a great match, no problems, good power.

Better question:

What are you trying to/expecting to tow, with what Suburban?
Older 1500?
Older 2500?
Newer 1500?
Newer 2500 w/ 6L?
Newer 2500 w/ 8.1L?
New 1500 w/ 5/3L?
New 2500 w/ 6L?

Just because Tom, Dick, and OSO Harry do it, does not make it kosher, safe, or legal.

I had a 1996 k2500 4x4 454 burban that i did short local trips towing a 30' 1984 scarab. The truck did it no problem, but it did get tossed around a bit from the weight of the boat.
A buddy of mine had the same truck but a 1999 He had air bags installed and used a distribution bar to tow the same boat down to Florida......i was a little nervouse on the way down just from my own experiences with my burban....but it handles the job witout issue...even passing the big semi's wasnt that bad....you just cant expect to be hauling 70mph+

sydwayz makes a good point...i know a guy who drags around a 39 sutphen with a f250, sure, it goes, but the stopping and sway has got to be a bit scary...never mind the legality, i'msure the insurance company might be wary....
big, strong, well-(and properly)equipped rigs make the most sense, you can't skimp on safety!

84 C2500 desiel converted to dually
93 K2500 454
95 K2500 454
98 K2500 454
02 K2500 454 or 496, I don't remember which.
I pulled a 311 Formula with all the above. A dually pulled much better. Boat and trailer weighed about 12500K LBS.
05 K2500 496 Pull a 23 Concept about 5500K LBS, don't even know it's there.

I agree with Sydwayz as well. I tow my 6,000 setup (boat, trailer & gear) with an 05 2500 Cummins. I traded in my 04 Yukon (5.3) for this rig even though the Yukon was rated for more than I "needed". I've also towed my setup with my wife's 07 Tahoe (5.3) and the tail was still wagging the dog. Plus, I get passed on the water all day long and it's kind of nice returning the favor on I-75.

The 8.1 Burb (06 and older 3/4 ton) is a hoss which can tow quite a bit more than a 6.0 (current and older 3/4 ton) and I'd rate a 5.3 (current and older 1/2 ton) with a Tahoe. Of course, you could snatch a 99 diesel too, or wait for the
the new HD diesel powered Burb coming in the next year or two.
