One advantage of surge is its simplicity. No electrical problem is going to stop your brakes from working like can happen with electric brakes or EOH. Just something to consider.

Personally, if building a trailer new, I'd probably go EOH disc. But if I had a surge trailer and it was in good repair, I'd leave it alone. Each has their advantages.

I need to replaced the brake system on my trailer, it has drum on it now. I have considered electric drum, not EOH, and disc surge. Both are about the same price. What are your opinions. Is an all electric system suitable for marine use?

Although it has been done staight electric I DON'T advise it. Go with the electric over hyd. set up 10 times better.
