Buying tomorrow. 500 hp CAT and loaded. Tomorrow is the big day. What do you think it's worth? Recent motor and rears (60,000 miles) Virgin rubber , Corvette dash , stretched , etc. The guy told me he got a ticket in Florida late at night - 120 mph!

tblrklakemo 04-06-2008 09:26 PM

F'in A man!...that thing is a beast. 6 or 8 inch loud pipes? I bet it sounds meannnn.

LapseofReason 04-06-2008 09:30 PM

It's cool, are you going to shorten it up and loose an axle for just towing boats on leave it?

pookie 04-06-2008 09:33 PM

nice but you won't be able to sell it if you don't like it (4mpg)

THEJOKER 04-06-2008 09:35 PM

I'll be pulling a 48ft flatbed. My 7 year old son will be riding shotgun. It'll mostly be a show truck for our company but I want my son to remember his roots and make some short trips w/ me!

More like 7 mpg. Cruises at 1650 rpm's.

pookie 04-06-2008 09:41 PM

maybe singled with a 3.50 rear

bgchuby01 04-06-2008 09:42 PM

shouldn't it cruise at 1400 to 1500. 1650 seems high for a large cat. I know the redlline is 2100. the engine should develope lots of torque by 1200. Looks cool, best of luck. My kids love driving with me in the summer

I'm going by what the guy's telling me. I've nevre owned a CAT. We got a bunch 60 Series Detroits and Cummins. He said the gear in the rear end or trans is flipped over. I've heard something like that before.

stecz20 04-06-2008 10:34 PM

very nice piece... good luck with her...

nothing like an older streached out rig going down the road...

bgchuby01 04-06-2008 10:36 PM

he means flipping the top gears in the trans. That means the last two holes to the right are reversed. Gives you a large overdrive. But you will see that cats have lots of power at low rpm and that also helps the engine run for a long time.

bgchuby01 04-06-2008 10:37 PM

Beween the trans and what looks like tall (24.5 rubber) you should have no problem outrunning most of the black and whites

DirtyMoney 04-06-2008 10:39 PM

Nice piece Brian! I was actually hauling equipment today when you called. I got a 600 Cat in a 08 KW that pulls like a dream.

pachanga 04-06-2008 10:59 PM

LOL! I didn't see any opinions of what it's worth! I would say no more than 10K. I sold my 5 year old(95) dressed out Volvo double stand up with a big detroit(walkin the dog, kicken the cat! and it did) with 250,000 miles on it for 12K. Can't see where in this market their is that much hype for a classic.

DirtyMoney 04-06-2008 11:08 PM

20k just a guess

cig1988 04-07-2008 04:59 AM

Nice ride Brian. Definetly a true classsic to say the least. What's the rear axle ratio?

Slick02 04-07-2008 06:39 AM

1650 is right in the powerband for that engine, 6 to 7 should be real with the top 2 gears switched depending on driver/load and where your towing. 120 may be an exaggeration on the ticket speed, unless he was empty with a flatbed and 3.55 gears and a downhill run and has the pump turned waaaay up. But a very sweet looking piece no matter what.

Volvo was your problem with your selling price. This is a PETE 359 Classic!:evilb:

Oh I've already thought of that!

bgchuby01 04-07-2008 08:35 AM

If you change the wheels to 22.5 low pro and cut the frame to a 56 inch CA with a single axel you can mount a pickup bed behind the sleeper.

tblrklakemo 04-07-2008 10:12 AM

Youve seen this then right?

nice....how about a little vid with some sound? I want to hear those pipes.

stainless 04-07-2008 11:38 AM

what was the final price ?

pookie 04-07-2008 12:12 PM

how much did you pay for it?

THEJOKER 04-07-2008 12:40 PM

30...motor , trans and rear end is new. Motor was a crate motor. I looked everywhere on line Truck Paper , etc and nothing came close as far as apples / apples. Lot's of 15-20 grand wore out stuff out there.

www.HollisTransport.com Here is my company and I can keep her busy as I want. It's my toy but she'll haul some good paying loads. I really just wanted it in my driveway to freak out my neighbors.l

stainless 04-07-2008 01:38 PM

Congrats ! Beautiful Rig !

Waterboy123 04-07-2008 02:21 PM

Nice looking rig!

Mercury_Challenger 04-07-2008 05:43 PM

Toys like that you can spin a profit with are always good toys.......me, on the other hand, its the exact opposite, all of my toys wind up eating up the profits.....LOL!

pookie 04-07-2008 07:40 PM

That's a steal!

MILD THUNDER 04-07-2008 08:03 PM

What a beauty. Been looking at some older 359 day cabs with big cam cummins for myself. Great looking trucks, and you cant beat the prices.

I would rather run a older rig that has fresh motor, trannies, rears, tires, etc, than a newer model with tired motor, trannie, rears, etc.

Congrats, and post some pictures of it pulling a load! The C-15 is sweet.

Thanks everyone......I'm pretty pumped for a 43 year old kid!

long duck dong 04-07-2008 09:16 PM

sweet ride, great find, good price....I think you stole it considering how it's equipped...

allfiredup 04-07-2008 09:18 PM

My bro just bought a 85 ext. hood classic 63" sleeper 320" wheelbase with a V-8 cat & 6&4 trans. (that's right 2 sticks baby). The motor had an in frame & trans. & rears re-done & I think he gave round 50k-60k. He told me in 4&4 (gears he can run right at a 100mph. He also gets about 6 mpg unless he is running hard (but he will go to jail if he runs that truck hard). Very nice ride I always wants a 359 classic & lower it & chop the top to pull my GTX I think that would be bada$$.

Just found this pic. I've been truck and boat crazy my whole life!

Slick02 04-08-2008 06:53 AM

#33 pictures are way cool,,,,very old school look with the single headlights, that grille and the stainless visor.
Is that the older narrow cab or is that an illusion caused by the visor?

sweet.....bet that thing looks mean coming up in your rear view mirror.

BUIZILLA 04-08-2008 06:53 PM

I'd say buyer did good, and seller got lucky...

if it's a 3406 mechanical, you did REAL good, they make BIG power if played with right

not that I know anything about that... :)

hp500efi 04-08-2008 07:16 PM

Joker, nice ride. I have a guy in my industrial park who has two of those and I can hear him a mile away coming through the park.. :)
