You are all over the place with your picks. I would go drive them all then buy what you like/ can afford. To get someone's "free opinion" off here on cars is going to confuse you even more.
Stockbrokers call it "paralysis by analysis." Give someone too many choices and they won't be able to pick any of them. |
Yeah, you're pretty much all over the place. First off, you have to decide what you want and what you're willing to sacrifice. Do you want a hot rod or do you want a hardcore sports car? Do you want straight line or is handling more important? Is pedigree and refinement important or are you looking for the "cheap thrill"? Porsche 911's are maintenance intensive and expensive to service & repair. Corvettes are the bang-for-the-buck winner but more muscle than sports car. My daughter's high-school parking lot is filled with Mustang GT's- if you're 19, it's the hot ticket. If your over 40, maybe not so much. The BMW M3 is probably the most refined, fun to drive choice out there. Their fast, quick and handle like go-karts. I'm going to lose my driver's licence buzzing my wife's up for gas twice a week. A used Porsche Cayman is right up there at that price range.
What you need is some seat time in each. |
Checkout www.ecarlink.com this is my buddys place and is out the back door fo my building.
I bought a Merc CL500 and a 07 Rover from them and they are great to deal with. |
heres a few excerts from reviews i found on the E55.
I am often asked what is the best car in the world (whereas I am not often asked to explain the subtleties of torque versus horsepower, but there you are). Lately, I'm inclined to answer that the E55 AMG is the car. Imagine this scenario: You are merging onto the 10, and there's a break in traffic. Feeling frisky, you mat the throttle ... one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand.... Count to five and you are commuting home at 120 mph or more. How do you look in an orange jumpsuit? What you cannot help but appreciate is the exquisite excess of power. Turn off the traction control, load up the torque converter (left foot on the brake and right on the gas), and let her rip. This car can lay down two 10-inch-wide streaks of very expensive rubber for 50 feet. That's fun. Once you are done showing off -- and certainly we hope the urge passes quickly -- you are left with a car of stunning athleticism wrapped in a rather unassuming package. The E55 doesn't look much different from an ordinary E-Class. Little denotes a car that can go wheel to wheel with a Dodge Viper. http://www.iccwebdesign.com/p1-T4TOdxvv8LU.html |
If you live in a cold climate like I do and need two cars I would suggest buying a 4x4 pickup truck that can be used to tow a boat and haul anything from people to rock salt.....thats what I did but then again I already have a few Corvettes and muscle cars to choose from whenever I want one and wthe weather up in Canada is cooperating.
I see in your sig line it says Florida, if I lived there I would drive a Vette all year round. Dont mess around with Mustangs, they are nowhere close to the car a Vette is and they arent that much less expensive. If I was you I would get into a 2 year old Z06 which you could probably find for right around 50-55k. Forget BMW's and Porsche's....those are girl cars:party-smiley-004: If you buy one make sure you get the body coloured purse option.....you will need it!;) Vettes are easliy serviced and the motors are generally bulletproof if you do proper servicing and take care of it. If you are into offshore boats regular service on a Vette will be a cinch compared to the **** you are used to. If you want to buy something cool and cheap and save for the next boat buy a used 2003-2004 Vette Z06 and just have fun with it. You wont lose too much on it and it is a kickass vehicle and looks great/sounds great. They are suprisingly livable too even as a daily driver. But if you live in a cold climate---buy a P/U (1999-2003 American made whatever--no japanese trucks) and then buy yourself a hotrod like the aformentioned Vette or even a 2003-2004 Cobra Mustang (wicked car for the money IMO)--or go old school and buy a 87' Buick GN and have some fun with it. Good luck. |

If I was shopping in the 50k and under range I would strongly lean towards an NSX. Honda Reliability, Ferrari Exotica. Not as fast as a VETTE in a straight line but plenty fast for the street, and just one of the most beautiful cars ever made....
Or possibly a Viper if you just want to go fast. Vettes are probably the best bang for the buck but I like something a little more out of the ordinary. |
I bought a Maserati coupe and love it. Will be adding a performance chip upgrade and a drive by wire system that will make the car faster than it already is.
|
One of my friends has an NSX. It's a wonderful car but way too "antiseptic". If you're going to own a sports car, it should give you that "feel". His feels like an Acura sedan- quite, comfotable, incontrol. Only much faster.
I love the Maserati sedan but they scare me. The Italians and the English are still living down a better part of a century of building rolling artwork that may or may not start/run at any given moment. |
Audi S4 Avant......hauls the mail, and the wife+kids+dog.
|
just what i was hoping for good information i am all over the place because i dont have any experience with the foreign cars . i have the 4x4 truck covered an 07 ford and the hot rod i have a 1992 mustang coupe 10 sec car that i never use and a 55 chevy in the works . ya criss there are alot of kids in mustangs and i am way past that age my grand kids will be wanting my mustang in a few years . i did not know that the Porsche is a high maintenance car i know parts would not be cheap or labor but if it is going to need to be in the shop more than normal thats not for me i want driver .i was going to include the zo6 and it is something i mite go for i have driven a few of them 03 cobra is nice a friend has one kenny bell on it and a tune with drag radials it runs 11.20 and the gt 500 i have driven a few of them also but stock they are not that fast they need gears and a tune . but have not driven the Porsche i have driven an a4 a friends i am not sure about the m3 maybe i know people that have them like em. i dont think i can get in a amg for under 50 ? i am going to go out and drive these like you guys said thats why i asked because you guys can give me the jump on this

I have been seriously looking at the AMG's myself- it's alot of bang for ther buck. At the same time, every time I see one, or any SL, it's got some "old guy" driving it. Since I'm pushing 50, I'm kind of age-conscious about what I'm driving. A Porsche or Corvette looks too "midlife crisis" and I'm thinking I may be 10 years too young for the SL.
If you think you might like a "stealth supercar", you should drive a BMW M5. Comfortable, room for friends and bags for an overnight and the speed/handling of a race car. Not to scare you off on the Porsche, but it's not the daily driver that a Vette or BMW would be. They're much more reliable than in the past but still they're expensive to fix and maintain- and finding someone that knows what they're doing is half the battle. Not to say that BMW doesn't have its own challenges. My dealer's service department has their collective heads so far up their a$$es... |
lol exactly i am pushing 60 that is reason i dont know much about the amg now that i have started looking at them they are nice

not all AMG's are ragtops. the E55 is a very comfortable 4 door sleeper and you can get in and out of it without being a contortionist...

Q: The best car you can buy?
A: A new Mercedes. Q: The second best car you buy? A: A used Mercedes! I can see Chris's point about old man style, but I very quicly changed my mind after getting an SL500 for my wife. It will go circles around most Corvettes and it will do it in style and comfort. If you like drifting or burnouts don't get them though, cause the traction system actually works and you will only be sitting at the finishing line waiting for your friends while they attempt to bring their highly modded Mustangs, Vettes, 911's.... around the track in the same time you did. The safety of a Mercedes is also second to none. If you are looking for outragious performance, try the 2003 (or newer) 600 biturbo - just try it. |
[QUOTE=Kims;2577404]Q: The best car you can buy?
A: A new Mercedes. Q: The second best car you buy? A: A used Mercedes! Not any more. I have lemon lawed two in the past 5 years. 03 E500, 37 days in the shop in the first year (moldy a/c, dead electonics), 07 GL 320 CDI (two tow truck breakdowns in the first 30 days of ownership, 42 days in the shop, problems unknown/ car wouldn't run/ MBUSA replaced the car free of charge). New 07 has covered 26K miles in 12 months without a glitch.............YET! MB's are trading on their past reliability, they are inferior to BMW/ Audi in my experience. I have owned two M3's and an Audi A8L that were flawless cars. |

I took the ML500 when the wife wanted a (cough chrysler coough )JEEP comander. Man the 500 has lots of power and gets 15mpg with me DRIVING it. Can only imagin what the 55 will do!
The duramax has turned into a full time tow veh. Quinlan |
Good friend had a 911 and then got the 55 AMG. He said the 911 was a like a go cart. He loves the AMG. Try a used 6 series BMW or the A8 Audi, but if you want a true muscle car the Viper is the only way to go.

I know I'm not exactly impartial but you really should check out a year old CTS-V. It gives you the stealth approach(sort of) bUt lots of hp. They're very affordable, fast, look good, and from what we've seen very reliable. There's a new version V coming for 09. Faster, much nicer to drive, not as low key.

If you wnt fast,I just bought a left over 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. 0-60 in 4.7 stock,AWD. It seats 5 ( a little tight) has all the bells and whistles. Is .5 sec faster than a Porsche Cayanne twin turbo at half the price. Wife just had a baby so I chose this to replace her 2 door Honda Accord.

ya there are alot of corvettes in Florida .you guys here the joke about the guy retired to fl bought a new vett convert and was driving up 95 going 120 he looked down and saw he was going 120 and said to himself wounder what this thing will do so he floors it and just then he looks in the mirror and a fl highway patrol car is on him with the lights on so he pulls over the cop walks up and says look i have 20 minutes left on my shift if can give me a good reason why you were going 120 i will let ya go the old guy thinks a minute and says last year my old lady left me for a fl state trooper and i thought you were bringing her back. cop says have a good day and keep down

http://image.automotive.com/f/featur..._rendering.jpg If you are willing to spend a little more and wait, the 09 looks to be insane. I think it holds the record for sedans at the Nurburgring. It's a M3 killer I think. I'm also VERY partial, but buy American. |
i've had the bimmers and the benz's (3 and 5 series) and (e and s class) had a 96 vette, a 2000 vette, and an 02 vette. in july of last year i purchase a 1999 911/996 carrera...non S, non turbo (first year of water cooled). i've put just under 10k miles on this car since i've owned it and lemme tell you...i will never own another sports car BUT a Porsche. Everytime i get in it its like the first time...im over 20 years in the car biz. yes when/if they break there expensive, BUT isnt anything worth having ? A goof friend of mine trades his 911's every 4 years with 100k miles on them...he's on his 4th and he'll never own anything but...his wife drives a Cayenne S which is also a baaaaad vehicle. Just my .02 im currently shopping for an 02 996 as we speak and if i find a deal this lil beauty may be for sale...and for under $30k i cant think of a way to have more fun
|
the car handles better then anything i've ever driven, is more comfy on long hauls then a vette by a long shot AND cruising at 75-80 gets 28 mpg...and the insurance is cheaper then either of my vettes were. may not be as quick 0-60, but runs the 1/4 in 13.74 and i've been in the 160's with her
|
ya i was hoping you would jump in here and give your opinion i saw you bought the Porsche last year nice car ==thanks

I love my EVO MR
For 50k you could have a 10 second 150mph evo in the 1/4 mile with full interior They are the biggest bang for the buck car. You can rally them Road track Them Auto X them. 1/4 mile the car. and still fit your golf clubs in the trunk along with 4 adults. 5 if you are a car full of asian's  http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...shoot/4758.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1254/...a63e7217bd.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1145/...6f8b819bd8.jpg |
