Question I was looking to buy a 2005 with the tow package,
says can tow 9,500. Can that tow my boat and trailer that is just at the 9,000 mark.Or will I be pushing that truck? Do I have to look at the 2500 series trucks?

I have a 07 titan and love it, best 1/2 ton towing truck I have been in.....but my boat weighs 4500-5000lbs. At 9k you are in very much into the 3/4 ton range. The 9500# is total payload, it is part of the total BS every manufactures plays with ratings. You will over the legal limit and unhappy with anything less then a 3/4 ton truck.

You can get a used diesel truck for such good prices right now might as well, thats a decent amount of weight, may as well get a truck that can safely handle it and if you move up you'll already have a truck ready.

The truck will be to light, 9000 lb boat, 1000 lbs fuel gear and beer, 2000 trailer, puts you at 11000 to 12000 lbs approx. I pulled this with 1/2 ton GM's for short distances and it was not a good or safe situation. One time it got into a whip and I was looking for clean shorts.

I had an '05 Titan and it was a great truck. My boat at the time was a 32 Sunsation that weighed about 6800#, add another 1200# for the trailer. It pulled that combo with no problem. No problems stopping, either. I towed that boat all over including a trip to the Keys from Houston, about 3K roundtrip. When I bought the Fountain, 11K# I tried towing it and the truck struggled badly. I bought a 2500 Dodge Diesel 4x4. I think at that weight you would be pushing the limits of the Titan, but it was one of the best trucks I have ever owned. I think the newer Titans have a higher tow rating.

Not directly related, but on the way home from LOTO Shootout, I passed a guy pulling a flat bottom Top Gun on a steel trailer with a...
TUNDRA!!
I didn't take the time to take any pics cause I wanted away from him as soon as possible. The truck looked like it was about to break in half! Here I was passing him pulling my 3500lb 24 Superboat with a 3/4 ton Dodge Diesel. He was having a little trouble keeping speed.
I had a Titan before the Dodge. It is a fantastic truck, and did great pulling the Super. I don't think I'd want to pull 9K with it though. It was the coolest truck I ever owned. Everything was well thought out and user friendly. The engine was powerful too. It just isn't what you want for towing big loads.

I towed about 8000 with mine and averaged 12+ mpg on a long trip last year. Never had any problem at the ramp etc... 9000 is close to its limit, so I guess it could come down to the diesel prices. The stopping power of the Titan is very good. I've had people cut me off in traffic while I was towing and the truck's brakes, along with the surge brakes on the trailer brought me a very quick stop. (then I threatened someone )
Can't go wrong with a diesel though...It would be the safest. Heard good things about the new Tundras as well.
