I follow you on the gas and plane ticket, I should have worded different meaning the buyer pays fuel and plane ticket or they pay shipping, however you lost me on the tax credit, wouldn't I just take the bill of sale in with my new truck registration and get the credit at that point? It has been several years since I have tried to use a sales credit it was previously 90 days after sale to use the tax credit...

I do this all the time when I trade my trucks in. the last two times an OSO'r got it.
The dealer gives me wholesale 36k trade in. The new truck is 54k and after discount and rebates the number is 45k I like everyone else pay the tax on the difference between 36 and 45k. Now The OSO'r comes to the dealership like in the last case and buys my trade for 36,200.00 as a "in and out". Buys it As is and done right after my closing. The extra 200 is for the paperwork. Everyone makes out. Fortunately, I have a good relationship with my dealers. |
so if i sold the truck to a private party at 1pm for 12k and went and picked up my new truck for 20k that same day could i just take my bill of sale from my old truck to the dmv and only pay tax on the difference of 8k , or have the rules changed where the dealer has to handle the transaction?
