I'm looking at 24ft enclosed car trailers and was wondering if getting the torsion type axles is a good idea?......any disadvantages to them?

The local Haulmark dealer has both types and there's a $1400 dollar difference.

Torsion axles allow the trailer to sit lower(more stability) the ride is much better for the vehicle inside and the torsion axle doesn't flex as much as a straight axle, straight axles tend to bend and or sag easier than the torsion axle. The down side is that they are more expensive initially, if you damage one they are much more expensive to repair/replace and there 1 for each wheel, its kinda like independent suspension for a trailer.

I have one with torsion , but make sure you get at least 5200# or 6000# axles otherwise you will over load it very easily .

I have had a couple of enclosed car trailers Torsion Axle is the only way to go. Best ride and trailer will sit lower better for handling. DONT take one with 3500 lbs axles get the 5000 lbs 6 lug.

lets say trailer 3000lbs empty
+ 3400 lbs car
+ 1000 lbs tools & misc junk
7400 lbs already

Now you see why you so many trailers with blown tires and wheel bearing going south on the highway.

Remember if trailer as MGW of 10001or higher on federal tag. and you are pulling it with a vehicle that is registered to a business you need a minium CDL class A license with a restriction of truck -trailer. So if you register truck and trailer to your self its recreactional use No CDL and No DOT#. That will save a lot of headaches on the road.
If you are going to transport cars in trailer that don't belong to you. Get the right licenses to avoid the headaches

If you're going to use it a lot get a V nose on it. A V nose will save you at LEAST 2mpg maybe more. Ask Haulmark if they make them that way because I just checked their website and I didn't see a V nose trailer.
