6.4L PS Issues
#1
Getting ready to pull the trigger on a new F350 (
) and was wondering if anyone here on the board has had any serious issues with their 6.4L. There are always rumors about "problems" with new powerplants, just wanted to take a real world poll from people that own them.

Check www.thedieselstop.com before you buy a 6.4L PSD. Some are perfect. Some have nothing but problems. Same thing with the 6.0L. If you ask a Ford diesel mechanic, he'll tell you he wishes they still made the 7.3L.

I'm getting close to 30,000 miles on my F450. Engine has been great, no problems at all. Fuel milage sucks. They say it'll get better at 30,000 miles but I'll believe that when I see it. Still, i wouldn't trade it for any truck of its size out there today.

Had plenty of 6.0's in the fam, no trouble, 6.4's as well and some friends that own 6.4's, no trouble. Most modded but see a lot of work use and towing, it was actually the stock ones that had some issues once in awhile, one of the 6.4's had lag issue and surging that Ford couldn't figure out and their flash made it worse, Sparten tune and never happened again and runs better. 6.4's sparten tune and dpf delete all the way, much much better mileage, lower egt's, no retarded regen, and ton more power and torque. Fuel mileage sucks on all the new big 3 trucks, you can thank the dpf and regen for that, the 6.7 Cummins is great and smooth and very well matched to the 6 speed auto, but sucks donkey balls for mileage compared to the 5.9 HO Cummins friend had before it.
