How much did you pay for the delete kit? I have priced them and was quoted 1400 dollars. You can buy a lot of fuel for that much.

JPD what do you need to know? It is a F-450 dually 2wd, came with 4:88s and I changed to 4:30s and the mileage still sucks.

We own both..GMC 3500 and Ford F350....Dually's..The GM gets .05-1mpg better than the Ford...It cracks me up to read this stuff time and time again who's BRAND of truck is better. Yes you have to do the reflash on the Ford, it does make the mileage better. Yes, if you do the delete pipe the mileage will be better than the GMC/Chevy. The GM suspension is not up to the task of towing heavy loads as stable as it's competitors, plain and simple. Read the latest reports..All 3 manufacture's are very close and accel in one or two items..but..when it comes to towing Ford is the most stable of the three with Dodge second and GM, third. Even acceleration is not won by GM anymore... My F350 has 3.73 gears vs the 4.10 on the other Fords. The mileage is slightly up as of today when I hit reset by the Lie-o-meter. At 55mph it read 22.1 in a 30 mile run on the freeway with cruise @ 56mph. When I started hitting my job sites and did some city driving, it dropped to 18.something. I havent hit reset for at least 2-3 mos. The more miles you put on these diesels the better, just got to remember how to drive properly. See a light turn red in the distance, off the gas and coast to the light..same with acceleration, dont kick it down.
Now the F450 is a diff. animal. more heavy duty than the 350, has a different driving experience, feels more laden by the weight and actually has 325hp vs 350 and 625 TQ vs 650..why Ford does that..I dont know..but you feel the hp loss, especially in a heavier truck...This is a purpose built truck............Guys, get your reflash. |

Said before on here, dpf delete and tune and the 6.4 wakes up like a mofo, more power, way better mileage, lower egt's etc. I was in a friends 450 the other day when he was over doing some electrical work and we went out after, that big ass truck hauls ass now LOL. Whats really cool is how comfy it is, doesn't drive much different from a 350 except you can definitely feel the added heft, 1st time I expected it to drive harshly and it wasn't. The one thing I don't like about the GM trucks is the suspension, they seem to be too soft and mushy, the Fords are nice and stiff yet still comfy. |
I think ford detuned the motor on the 450 for longevity.
