I like em both. But the tendency with Audis has been every XXth car seems to have some pretty major warranty work needed. I was looking around at several, and some of the Carfax reports were revealing, and meshed with the experience a friend had with his A6.

After 1-3 months, complete new instrument cluster. Another few months go by, new door wiring, another engine part. Irritating to say the least. But I've known many people that have had little to no problems.

BMW I think still has the 50,000 maintenance free program. That's a real plus given some of the dealer rates for these cars. I believe Audi discontinued theirs. I just got a new Avalon due to my driving, which resulted in my last car doing 136,000 miles in five years. I drive even more now. My last one required a new brake job, which set me back $800, and some scheduled visits. Total maintenance cost for 136,000 miles amounted to under $2,000, and that was with me doing a 30k, 60k, and 90k dealer BS service.

The way I see it, my drive's too boring for a BMW or whatever. More money for boat gas and toys.

Caddy/GM nailed it with this car.

I took it for my first spin today......this car is an animal.. if your lucky enough to run it and hit the supercharger i have never felt a pull like that. tires will light up at 80. This was something.

The Cts-V is an absolutely awesome car. GM really stepped up to the plate with this car and it truly is as good as the Germans. However if you love v-8's, the AMG's truly are more exotic with their engines, just amazing. As an owner of a BMW m3 I can say that audi's are great cars but they're nowhere near the sporting nature of the M's, even the rs4. Still a great car though. The CTS-V really is awesome though and a tough decision between the amg and it. The m5 really isnt a competitor for the CTSV, more of a competitor of the new m3 4 door. Tough call between the 3 cars though. They're all amazing.

Default M5 v. CTS-V .........and how stupid is GM?

JoePcone, I agree that the CTS-V is a great car, but your quite mistaken to think that the M5 is not a competitor. Every automotive media test I've seen from SuperCar Exposed (on SpeedTV) to MotorTrend and MotorWeek has them virutally identical on the track with the CTS-V having slight acceleration advantage (more grunt torque), while the M5 has a superior top end speed (if you're into that).

When my family recently outgrew my daily driver Z06, I tried to buy a CTS-V and bought a barely used 2008 M5 instead (now lightly tuned). GM royally screwed up the market for the CTS-V, they finally made a great car that everyone wants and the "stealers" try to rape you because of the lack of availability. If GM would make as many CTS-V's as they do crap that nobody wants they wouldn't need to borrow as much of my tax money to keep their doors open.

The new M3 is very quick and well balanced car also, but it is much smaller than the M5. Also, the M3 and M5 are very different markets due to price and probably size. I can put three adults in the back of my M5, try that in an M3 or CTS-V.

Audi is making a great car. Our last A8L was perfect for 49K miles (lease car). My wife broke the cup holder (by jamming a water bottle too big for it in it). Thats the sole repair....
Previous A6's were fair but one had an oil leak and was lemon lawed.

I have had two M3's and both were solid bulletproof cars. The last was an 02 Conv. that never had an unplanned service stop and never had a warranty claim in the 2 years/20K miles I had it.

The new CTSV is a weapon and I would easily buy it over the tech laden M5. An E63 would be a tougher choice. The only catch is the Caddy is still an ugly car, fast but ugly. Too many angles but I would still like smoking the tires on it.....

Sorry I meant its not a competitor to the cars above since its not in the same size-class. It's in a bigger class of car like the STS-v, Audi Rs6 and Benz E63 AMG. The M5 is obviously as good as these cars if not better, just too big to really compare to the CTS-V. They compare it to the CTS-V, in magazines, because the performance is so close. This is a true compliment to how good the Caddy really is and how good the M5 is, in my opinion.

May Road & Track had a test of the A4 and the BMW 335d. The Beemer beat it in acceleration and fuel mileage and other categories as well. It was a clear win.

The Jetta TDI has more hp/tq now with the new 2.0 motor. Should be more fun than the 1.8 I drove a couple years ago.

The Aptera is in there too. That's the powertrain direction we need to go in, if not the styling;
