Default 2009 Chevy / GMC HD

Just wondering if anyone else here is running a 09 2500 or 3500 with the 6.0. If so any idea how rough your fuel milage is.. ??? Mine seems to tow really nice & have good power (eventhough it doesnt have the torque that my Duramax did), but seems a little rough on fuel yet. I only have a little over 1k on it so far.. Just curious as to what others seem to be getting.. J

I have a 09 Yukon with the 5.3 motor that is good for 12-13 city and 17-19 Hwy. That was pretty close to what the window sticker indicated.

That 6.0 is a thirsty motor. What you are getting now will get a little better as you put on some miles, maybe 1-1.5 mpg increase. Ultimately you will probably see 11-13 city/14-16 hwy.

It takes about 3000 miles for these engines to break in fully. Your mileage will depend upon how you drive and rear axle ratio. I have a 2004-2500 Avalanche with the 8.1 motor- and get 12 around town and 9 towing. I have a 4.11 axle and have installed the Hypertech program for regular fuel. It gave me about .5 mpg and more power.

I get 11-12, but just got over the 3K miles mark and it does make an improvement there once its broken in I believe.

I have a lift and bigger tires though, which definitely hurts the milage.

Basically, the 6.0 is gonna use some gas in these big trucks, but overall it performs fairly well, and saves you a ton up front vs the d-max which will buy you a lot of gas.

At 3k mi. these engines are a long way from being fully broken in. They will continue to make power and 'loosen up' well into the 12-15K mi. mark. It's a good thing.

I have an 07 with the new body style and have 44K miles. I get 13-14 in the city and 16-17 on the highway.

I had one a while ago & I remembered it used its share of fuel. I had an 01 3/4 ton suburban.. It was a great tow vehicle, but it wasnt an angel on fuel.. The funny thing was my last 08 Suburban was much worse!, My H2 Hummers were actually better.. Jamie

Thanks for the respomses guys.. So far I am happy overall (actually quite happy).. I didnt obviously buy it for fuel economy.. Im getting about 13 or so with a little over 1K on it so far & some of it towing.. I also like the new changes they have made since my 05 3/4 ton Duramax.. I think it rides & shifts better.. I do miss the little bit of extra torque but its a fair trade off for saving .60 to a buck a gallon at the pump up here.. lol.. Jamie
