Default 03 GMC 3500 Hitch Upgrade Questions

My parents are away on vacation and towing a 25' TT with 03 GMC 350 dually and got rear ended and the factory hitch got whacked. I am trying to get my dad to upgrade the hitch to better since the factory stuff seems junk. I think I recall Titan and Putnam hitch being popular upgrades, am I remembering that right? He has a ton of 2" receivers and wants to keep that aspect, so I think that means no class 5 right? . Any advice to to what hitch. Truck is totally stock otherwise. If I recall the wiring plug is integrated and since he is on vacation he might not be able to mess with upgrade, but seems a shame to get junk OEM replacement at this point.

Thanks in advance.

no advice on what brand to get. guess it comes down to cost & vendor preference.

Class V can still be 2", but uses a larger diameter pin. 3/4 vs 5/8 if memory serves.

Go with Curt or Reese Titan-V.

Putnam went out of business; great hitches though.

Thanks. I talked to my dad last night. Insurance company is not letting him "upgrade" anything, but body shop said GM had a optional heavy duty version that was like $400 vs. standard hitch which was like 150. If he pays delta they will order better hitch. Anyone ever heard of a factory upgraded hitch?

I had a Reese Titan V on my Ram 3500 and loved it, thinking about getting a 2009 Ford F250 King Ranch and Titan will be on the day of delivery just like the Dodge. That sucks that they are not letting him upgrade, its seems that since he was rear ended they would give him anything to keep him from saying he was hurt. I am sure that if he pressed they would give him any hitch he wanted because he could go after alot of $$$$ if he wanted to claim any pain.

Tell the insurance to give him the $150, then get a Reese Titan for $250. You can get an adapter to use a 2" drawbar in the 2.5" Titan.

Actually my factory GM hitch was a 2.5" box, but it was no-where as beefy as the Titan I put in its place.

Edit: Guess I was a little off on the price. But this one even has a 2" box.

The phone lines are cut off now, and when you have a retailer look up the Putnam part numbers (for drawbars in my case) they rolled to Draw-Tight numbers in the Keystone distributor system.
