2009 Ford F250 tow question
 

I have always been told that anything over 10k get a dually but the sales guy is telling me the Ford F250 can tow 12.5k easily so i wanted to see if anyone here had first hand experience. I used my dads 2002 F250 4x4 back in '04 and it was night and day difference from my Ram 3500 DRW, was told that the 2009's and far improved over the 2002 so I would'nt notice 10k back there as much....Also what is a good number off msrp? I was shot $11k off a $59k msrp.

In regards to your question are you talking from the legal aspects of GVW's or practical applications as in "it's too much weight for a single tire" or "I feel safer with dual tires"

I've towed 12.5-13K lbs. with both a new 2009 F250 and several duallies.

Go with the dually. You have a lot more truck to control the load.

I've got both..07 and 08 models...yes the dually will yeild better results, but the 250 will handle the job, and is rated to do so. The front suspension is way different than the 04 F250 you had and the rear suspension was also updated in 08...too handle a load better with a more controlled ride. This 08/09 is a vast improvement to what you are use to on the Older Fords. Go to the dealer and try it..with your boat in tow. Jeff

Do you still have your Ram and what year is it? You'll have far more stability towing with it than the F250. 12,500lbs is a lot of weight for a 3/4 ton truck. Think about pulling that much weight up a ramp, especially if it's slick...

Plus your insurance company will not cover an accident if your load exceeds the weight rating.

I went back and saw you'll be towing 10,000lbs so you should be ok with that. My 2003 Dodge 3500 srw was rated at 11,500. My boat with 110gal fuel on the trailer weighed 5500lbs. My 2006 Dodge dually is rated 12,500lbs on the receiver hitch and 16,500 on the gooseneck.

New here but nothing wrong with your dodge if you'll give her a little love. Chipped out dodge 3500 with a full 10 foot camper pulling my Fountain 31te. 940lb TQ 745 hp. Added a 3 inch aftermarket exhaust off E bay, Air box, and upped the injections about 20 lbs. I can almost out run cars from stop lights. 3500 is the "ONLY" way to go. Almost never have a flat tire and there 60% more stable then the 250 in curves . Have custom Honda 3000eu Generator box I built on the front of the 3500 and I"m about 22 total loaded with fuel and still getting 12 mpg. Mine is Catless.
I run a Stinger rig coast to coast. 10 car,,, car hauler. Best place to buy a truck is in TX if you can deal with used. Everyone has them and the dealerships are loaded and over run. Mine was 3 years old, with only 62000 miles. Paid 15900. Have it shipped in for about 500 to 600 dollars . You will still save a bunch. Free up some of that money for toys. Aint' that the whole idea!!!. :cool-smiley-026:

Dang.. forgot most important thing . Firestone air bags. No matter what you get,,, get a set of those on the rear. There cheep and my whole unit rides like a MB. I can control the air from inside the cab. I run about 60lbs.
