I've heard good things about the Valair Feramic clutch and I've heard good things about South Bend too. I'm on www.cumminsforum.com as moparman. I'm trying to save money for another boat so I probly won't do much mods to my truck unless for mileage boost.

I have an SBC dual disk 3250 (12CB). It has been flawless so far for me, one thing I can say about South Bend is that their customer service is top notch.

Considering they are a fairly large company, I appreciate the fact that a regular "Joe" can call up and speak directly with the owner.

I have ran 3 SBC dual disk clutches and have had all fail. 2000 Ram 3500, 600hp, 2002 Ram 3500 550 hp x 2. It was like pulling teeth to get any support from them. Each time I had to get a whole new clutch. I have seen 1 valair fail and it was sent back in and replace NC. Both make great clutches, I ve just had better luck with Valair lately. Valair is mainly known for their class 8 truck clutches.

I had a nightmare 2006 Duramax LBZ with the Allison. 5 sets of injectors, 3 injector pumps, new fuel rails, new pressure sensors, and they still never fixed the problems. 22K in warranty work in one year. Truck spent 4 out of 12 months in the shop. All of this and truck was under 100k miles. Truck is middle of the road on mileage 15.5 mpg unloaded and usually around 12.8 pulling single engine boat/10.9 pulling a large twin. Chevy has some fuel management issues with the LBZ engine and it this is not an isolated case.

I would try for a 5.9 Cummins with a manual transmission. Auto will not hold up to towing. Dodge does lack on creature comforts in the cab but 20-22 mpg will keep a smile on your face. The 5.9's are bringing premium money with a manual trans right now due to emission systems problems with the 2007.5 - 2010 models so good luck!

AMEN BROTHER.. i also have owned all of them, my old 2001 dodge had a bulletproof engine and a junk auto trans, i put 120k miles on a 7.3 ford without a problem, i really think the 6.0 ford and the duramax are both piles of crap, injector problems, head gaskets, etc.. the allison trans is not a REAL allison trans, but a worked over chevy trans with an allison tag on it, i have a buddy who is on his third one and the truck has 60k miles, the ford 6.0 trans is better than the allison I.M.O., buy a 5.9 cummins with a manual trans.

That's what I have. I bought it to tow heavy loads. I'm off the road now but I have NEVER regretted getting the G56 manual.
