2500 HD traction problem

I have a 2008 Chevrolet 2500 HD 2WD. It has a locking differential and stock Bridgestone 245 75 tires. It's been doing a good job pulling the Baja but now, after 8000 miles of wear, it's started spinning on the ramps. I've lowered the air to 50 psi but it's still spinning. Tires?

Most likely. Depending on what Bridgestones you have.
I put Firestones on my 2500HD (they're not all terrain) and I have to use 4 WD to pull anything out of the water since I put them on. I had BFG A/T's before and almost never needed 4 WD. With 2 WD you are going to need an All Terrain tire to get it done on wet ramps.

You will probably be better off going to an 8-9" wide wheel and some more meat to the tire; since you are fixed to a 2wd truck.

Or atleast jump to a 265 tire. I am on my 3rd set of Michelin LTX's (now called LTX II). Even as bald as you can get (without cord coming through) I still got my 32 Sunsation out of the ramp last weekend. New tires were in my garage but I didn't have the time to get them swapped yet.

With my 2WD 2500 diesel I only got stuck at one ramp about 6 months ago (my local one, I use it all the time). Don't know why it slipped that day but I still use it even with the same bald tires that I had before. I suspect someone spilled something like oily bildge water as the boat was coming out of the ramp. Nothing a tow strap couldn't fix though!

Thanks. I'm going tire shoppin. I had some LTXs on another truck and they were great!

I know it sounds stupid, but if you will slightly set your parking brake it will help with the tire spin.

I have the same truck without the locking rear differentials and dont have any issues spinning. I'm only pulling a 23' baja (soon to be a 28 Heat)but can take off as fast as I want and wont spin (unless of course I hammer it). I have 305/55/20 Nitto Graplers. They hook up on everything I have went threw so far. Ive enen decided to go 2 wheel driving (you would think I wouldnt try it since its not 4wd :lolhit:)and made it threw some stuff I wouldnt have if it wasnt for the tires.

whats the tongue weight also?

maybe move the boat up a lil if possible and put some more weight on the truck

280 Sport 10-15-2009 01:05 PM

Super heavy but I'm not sure exactly. Good point though....I need to try and weigh it somehow.

sand and rock quarries always have scales. they need to know weights for amount they charge customer and safety liabilities.

walk in one day w/out rig and ask if you can come in some sat.

thats how we weighed off road race cars/trucks and the porsches.

six pak of cokes will get 'er dunned.

I had the same problem with my 03 with those same tires so I wanted wheels anyways and put 305 50 20 on it nitto terra grappler's on it and have not spun a tire since

I second the Michelin LTX's. I've got them on my Excursion, 285 75 16's, and have almost 120000 miles on them. You will not find a better riding or durable tire out there!

I third the Michelins. I bought my Dodge dually with 22,000 miles on the OD and the OEM Generals still on it. At 40k I had to replace them. I asked the guys on www.cumminsforum.com what tires I should buy and they said Michelin Goodyear Nitto and Toyo. I asked the Discount Tire guys and they recommended the Michelin LTXs. I put the Michelins on and they are hands down the best tires I've ridden on in a truck.

I agree the Michelin LTXs are great..
