Why would anybody buy a diesel that gets that poor mileage unless it's for towing heavy.

I would get one with the manual trans and a mileage chip like the HyperMax.
The Dodge SRW 3500 I drove got a little over 15mpg and that was mostly city and some HWY with me getting on it some..I wanted too see if it had more power vs my dually...I dont know if they still offer the manual.

Yes they do, it's the G56 manual like mine. With a weak 3.94 first gear, the 68RFE automatic I drove really needs an underdrive transmission like the Gear Vendor to haul heavy loads, or go with a lower rear axle ratio like the 4.44 or 4.56.

)(=My truck needs the overdrive because at 2000rpms(best mpg) it runs only 62-63mph. This truck ran 1750rpms at 70 mph. If my truck(5.9L) would do that I could get 25mpg all the time. I'm sure the 6.7 will get better mpg once it breaks in but how much better is the question.

I must say I was impressed with the fit, finish, comfort and styling. The multifunction area between the big gauges takes a little effort to figure out but I like it. I don't much care for the new outside mirrors though. Cameras would be better than those things.

If you want better mileage from the 6.7 Cummins the DPF and EGR need to be removed but that will void your warranty. However I have read that they can be replaced with the right removal techniques.
