Buying a '06 or '07 Ford 6.0

I've been looking at '06 and '07 F-350's with the 6.0. I've learned(mostly on here) these are the best years for the 6.0. What should I be looking? Are there ways of knowing if it was previously chipped, programmed, etc.?

RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN STAY AWAY FROM ALL 6.0s junk

I've got an 07 4dr 4x4 dually that I love....only problem has been a dead battery cause even though I start it every weekend, I rarely drive it (especially in the winter, getting close to 11,000 total miles!!). I recently sold my boat and looking smaller but not really interested in selling the truck, I would be interested in what you find they are selling for thou.....I looked up NADA on mine and it came back $36.5 trade-in, $41.5 retail (I don't believe they are going for that!!)

You'd be very lucky not to have major problems with the 6.0 PSD. You'd be a lot better off buying a Duramax or Laramie Dodge.

you would be better off buying a 2008 or newer. motors are better and better options. stay as far away from the 6.0 as you can

I hear what you guys are saying about the 6.0, but I have a 2006 supercab, 4X4, Edge Juice Chip, K & N filter, 45,000 miles. I had a oil leak at the O-ring on the cam sensors. It's a daily driver, I tow a Top Gun with it. I hear all the stories about it being a piece of junk but I don't know anyone with a 05 or 06 that's had a problem. The 03 & 04 had a lot of problem's. So far I love this truck. It may blow head gaskets tomorrow but so far it has been a very good truck. I buy new every 3 or 4 years but Ford can't seem to make up it's mind on engines, the 08, 09 had to many problems, now they are coming out with another new engine, I don't want to buy anything that hasn't been tested for a couple years. So until I start having problems I guess I'll stay with my 06 PSD.

Ford said they put 250,000 miles testing the new Scorpion. If that's more than one or two trucks it's a joke. Having said that, I believe the Scorpion will be the best diesel engine Ford ever put in its trucks. All the articles I've read raved about the architecture and special features of the motor.

I think you Ford guys can breathe a little easier now...

I totally get what you're all saying about the 6.0's. The only thing though is that I can do a lot of repairs for the price difference between the Duramax and 6.0. The '06's I'm looking at are between 16-21k depending on miles and the same in a Chevy Duramax is 5-8k higher. It sux cause I traded my '06 Duramax dually in and they gave me 26k for it a year and a half ago. It was loaded with every option(53k sticker). It was when the price of trucks took a hard hit. Now that their back up in price, I can't buy that truck for less than 32k a year and a half later with 3x the miles.

I have a couple 06 6.0 never had a problem they will tow the duramax out of the water. There were some issues with the 04 and early 05's. I tow bobcats and excavators with mine. All I have done is pm and oil changes on them.

I just recently sold my '05 F250 with 86,000 mi. never in the shop once other than LOF and 1-set of tires. Mine was a good one
