boogy886 I was asking if the 05 had an Overdrive for NON-TOWING use. The Fass pump is a no brainer and I would think air filter and exhaust upgrades would be worth the time and $$ . If you buy a used '05 or'06 you would have plenty of $$ to spend on up-grades INSTEAD OF MAKING PAYMENTS on a $50,000 new truck. What about front ends and rearends and brakes on these years. And what about a Suncoast Trans and converter or some other trans builders products ? Any body have experience with aftermarket products for these trucks ? CHEERS AW

I have a 2006 quad cab dually with the manual trans. It's for sale for $20,000 if you can deal with the G56...

had an 05, motor good but auto tran bad. have an 08 now engine good once you do dpf delete and transmission is much better.
As far a 3.73 gears on my 08 I pull my apache no problem. With the new auto it isn't the issue it was with the old 4 speed.
Best thing about 07.5 and newer trucks is the exhaust brake. Talk about slowing a load down in a hurry.

2003 H O 5.9 has been a great truck. No issues towing 13K-15K pounds on cruise control, in overdrive, at 70-75mph. Original auto transmission with 3.73 posi.
Look for the High Output engine package, I think it may have a different tranny as well.

I sold these trucks from 2002- 2006 ( and a lot of them) The best truck was the late season 2004 and early 2005.
They had the 3rd version of the HO It had the most torque. It also had the newer 4 speed auto. When they turned up the engine in early 2004, the auto couldn't take it. For a while they only offer the standard shift with that engine. The new tranny came out and it couldn't take it early 2004. The late year 2004's and early 2005's still bring the best trade in and re sale also. The hot shot transport guys will pay big money for them because of the reliability factor.
THe SRW 3500 2WD would also get around 22MPG average on the highway with a 3:73 gear and the michelin tire.
Good luck with your search. Which one do I own do you ask? My tow vehicle is a late production 3500 4x4 dually laramie. It has been in the shop for maintenance and a transmision service. It did have a computer issue at around 88,000. I did buy it used though, so it had been abused pretty hard before I got it. Still pulls great down the road and looks awesome.

Oh and I also have a 39' sea ray that easily weighs 20K on the trailer and the auto pulls it in OD whenever I ask it to.
I have had some big loads on the back and it holds in OD like it was designed to do.

That why the Ram dominated up till around mid 2005. It didn't sell as many as chevy and for total since dodge was a smaller company, but we were taking those fords and chevy's off the road left and right for guys who were farming and ranching and hot shot truckers. They couldn't get enough of the big Rams back then.

Well my 2006 G56 dually does anything and everything I ask it to do with ease. Anybody who knows the Cummins knows that towing less than 10,000lbs is not even a test for this motor.
However, I am less than thrilled with the interior so when we're ready to buy the toyhauler for the road I'll trade for the new Laramie. I love everything about the new Ram trucks and if they offer the Laramie interior on the 4500 I'll get that one. Flame red of course!
