Can't agree I could set my 04 PSD with 150K on the lot it at the dealership I work for $18K and get it all day long!!!! If we got same truck as mine in a gaser it would get ran through the shoot or auction for those not in the car biz. Scott your thoughs might be true in South FL, but you are outa the ball park in the midwest!!!!!

So same 2004 truck, 150K miles with a gas motor you couldn't get 10K for it?

My argument was you weren't going to get 8K difference (so in your example 10K for the gas if 18K for the diesel).

The diesels are suffering "lot rot" in S. FL simply because the construction/landscaping type guys who use them aren't real busy and certainly don't want a new payment book right now. In 04-05 when the boom was on, every subcontractor was showing up in new duallys!

If GM could still sell a BBC the gasser trucks would be a totally different world (damn emissions regs!).

The article basically says the GM/Ford both pull like a train, but the GM's ride and handle better (IFS will do that).

Ford may have had some problems, but the Cummins is not night and day more reliable than a D max, sorry.

You used to have to try and justify having the ****tier truck around the cummins to rationalize it in the past, but at least the new Dodge's are solid everywhere (but they're behind in power now).

You're argument is correct, the engine package depreciates just like anything else.

That 8K could be much better spent for many people.

Your Dodge truck is falling apart? Yank the Cummins out and put it in the Ford 6.0 you still have. Everybody says the best truck is a Ford/Cummins right? There are at least two websites devoted to that swap. Beans Diesel Performance just north of you in Tenn. does a ton of them every year. Here's a little-known fact; you see Ford and GM guys swapping Cummins motors into their trucks, but you never see Dodge guys swapping Dmaxes and Pstrokes into their trucks. Ask yourself why that is...

Yes the Dodge automatic transmissions are weak but the manuals are strong. Almost all the pro haulers have manuals. Almost all of them drive Dodges too. They're willing to put up with a few truck issues to have the Cummins. I have the G56 six speed manual and I've had zero problems with it.

No I don't haul for a living now but I used to. I did my homework, drove all the duallys, went on the haul sites and asked questions about all three trucks. I chose the Dodge, not because of the truck but because of the Cummins.
Im not going to argue with you.. I realize you eat, sleep and sh!t Dodge...210k for a truck that pulls 10-12k every day and occasional 15k
track hoe is a lot of abuse, more than the norm. It's not like taking your Cummins to the grocery store, Walmart, or Bed Bath and Beyond.. These trucks also still run, and it's more cost effective to sell them, or sell them to an employee in tact and running and get something vs pulling the Cummins out of my 04 and putting it into something..As a business man it's not cost effective to do as you suggest..Dodge should have built a better truck..and if they were so good through out all these years that the Cummins has been in there...there sales would be more than 25% of what Chevy/GMC sell who have been in the diesel marketplace the shortest. The two that were retired were replaced with an 11 250 swb and a 350 lwb which is my personal truck. The Dodge will be sold, have a friend of an employee looking at it and I'll probably get the new Duramax if I can find a base model, if not Ill get another FORD..

I agree with all that. No question Dodge screwed up by not offering a quality work truck.

But don't hate on me because I don't tow/haul any more. Not my fault. I'm trying to sell the truck now so I can get something more fuel-efficient and more fun to drive(Jetta TDI).

If you want it I'm asking $20,000. 70,000 miles not one problem with anything on it. 2006 white dually SLT power driver seat satellite radio gooseneck hitch Tekonsha trailer brake controller. You won't find a better deal anywhere.

This new one is so far advanced, it amazed me. And I drive for a living..I've owned them all.. Did not think I would buy another Dodge, but, after checking all of them, I chose Dodge. Hope I made the right decision, time will tell.

Can't believe I'm siding with Cat, but, it is what it is.

Cat, I dont hate ya..or really anyone for a matter of fact...I hope you sell the truck. We also have 2 Jetta's.. my daughter has the TDI, and Sandy has the Wolfsberg Eddition. The 2010 TDI is averaging better than what is on the window sticker..44mpg in town and freeway..awesome car. and Sandy gets 27 around town and very little freeway and goes like a raped ape.. We are VW fans, and love all German cars for the way they drive..

German cars made in Puebla, Mexico.......

The local GMC/Chevy lot is also a VW lot. I was looking at new GMC's and noticed a Golf Diesel nearby. I was shocked to see it was actually made in Germany. The Jetta/Passat cars are from Puebla and the GTI was Slovenia.

The Audi A3 TDI is running the same setup as the Jetta for 10K more!
