Agreed. That's why i specified "stock everything" on this engine particular.

I was driving more at people who post answers without really knowing what they are posting about on other sites that I've tried to get info from.

You know, the guy who always says "ive got a friend".... but he doesn't even own a truck...

The Bully dog on my 07LBZ is set to de fuel at 1300.
Always wondered what is safe. Usually only hit it on Extreme setting and when gettin on it hard.

I've got a friend or two that have duramax (lb7's) and they sled pull drag race and whatever else you could possible do to try and melt a piston and they never have. With these idiots melting pistions is not a problem but bending rods and putting a hole in the block is a different story. A couple of them don't even run any guages in there truck, not that i personally agree with that but, there logic is that even if they see that its hot while they are sled pulling or drag racing there not going to let off so they would rather not know where the egts are. When you drag race you egts are between 1600-2000 degrees for 12-13 seconds and if you sled pull it could be 20-25 seconds, so if you hit 1400-1500 degrees for 10 or so seconds pullinf your boat I don't think that its going to hurt anything. Don't try this at home:

agree ^^^ 1400 to 1500 for a few seconds is not going to hurt anything but if you got a long hill in front of you just take it easy when towing you will make it up it lol if you run a tuner i would go with efi live and get a save tow tune

my 07 6.7 cummins pre DPF removal , pre EGR removal would easily hit 1400 + degrees mild acceleration empty , this is pre turbo temps, [crazy], now after gutting all that crap, now at cruise about 70 pulling the boat its approx 800 degrees.

Smitty 01-16-2011 09:51 PM

IMO 1200 degrees for a longer period, 1300 for no more than 15-20 seconds tops.

I thought i killed the thread with the "ive got a friend"....

racer-x6 01-19-2011 07:44 AM

My 04 is stock with the EDGE system and the paperwork that came with it said 1250 for extended periods of time would cause damage to the turbo. at 70 MPH my EGT is around 700.
