LB7 EGT's

Stock or using a basic tunner with none of the other fancy stuff installed, what is a conservative max temp to run at?

Stock turbo, stock everything...

Interested in a good number that isn't killing the engine.

1350?

I was looking at the Banks Bullet. I wanna keep my truck for a long time.

i know on my 7.3 my rule was 1200 sustained i heard would start to do bad things to my turbo. I ran it up to 1400 for a couple seconds a couple times and it ran over 200k perfectly before I sold it. I know your dmax is a differant motor, but i think even 1200 is pretty warm.

Man, after reading and searching seems you won't find two people who agree on a number.

I hate it when soo many people answer a fact finding question with opinions instead of experienced based answers.

I don't know everything but I don't post advise if I'm not sure either... Or I say "I'm not sure" etc..

Lb7

I have a 03 LB7, I have the normal mods and run a quadzilla tuner and heve been running this set up for 2 years it now has 156k miles , I dont tow with the 135hp tune as egts come up and it will always set the check eng light for overboost, but I do tow a 30ft toyhauler camper that when loaded weighs in at around 11K, EGTs normaly run below 1100 but I have had them in the 1400 range climing the pass out side of denver with GCVW of 26000lbs, I tow alot and this setup works great
1. 4" exhaust
2. tuner -for towing dont go over 75hp on the quadzilla tuner anyway because they rate hp deliverd to wheels not crank (you will limp the trans)
3. boost valve
4. port the intake horn
5. get a EGT guage

My truck put 423hp and 860lb ft of torque with the 135 tune. I have a few other things , but that is the main things. I know there are lots of tuners and costom tunes but I have had 4 diff tuners and I like the quadzilla up to the 90hp tune drivability is better than stock, after 110 tune it ok on the open road but in traffic it sucks, boost comes on like a 100 shot of NOS even at part throttle

U don't wanna go north of 1350-1400 and stay there with stock exhaust

If u worried bout egts using a tuner pick up an after market exhaust as well as a diamond eye turbo direct pipe. The turbo direct pipes are good for 100 degree drop easy.

I'm a bully dog believer. We've ran triple dogs on our lb7 as well as our current lbz's. Great results on the 90hp tunes while pulling the race trailer and my boat.

lb7

in short you really wont see EGTs above 1200 unless you dial up the tune or pull heavy loads i.e. over 20k GVCW, I love my LB7, the only think I would trade for is a 06 duramax, you get the 360hp and the 6speed allison, I pull 10 to 15k miles a year and use my truck daily transportation

the reason there isnt a "set number" is because some turbos/engine parts let go at 1200 and some (like my 7.3) hold together well after 1400..there are so many variables (much like boat engines) that effect engine parts.
