I'm not worried about how they pull as I'm quite happy with what I have But I'm thinking more from a legal standpoint. When I'm hauling a load of fat cattle in my gooseneck I can easily weigh 28,000. The ford info says the 450 is only available with 430s and a 350 daully is only available with 373s. I've heard all the horror stories about mileage with the 450s but i thought maybe that was with the old 488 gear they offered.
Mike from what Im told, the old generation 450's with the 6.4, whether its 4.88 vs 4.30 gets about 1.5 mpg better. The new generation 6.7 450 wih the smaller tires does get better fuel economy, but no where near 20. My 07 6.0 350 dually with 4.10's pulled my NorTech to one poker run and I got 8.2, sold to Mark a member here with a Cig. My 08 6.4 350 dually with 3.73's towed the same NorTech to the same poker run and got 8.7mpg. The new generation 6.7 non dually 350 with 3.55's and now 325 60 R20's gets around 16 mpg city/hwy, and the stock 11 250 6.7 gets about 17.5 same driving scenario. The 11 2500 Duramax gets about the same 17.5-17.6 as the 11 250 Powerstroke. When the 250 and the 2500 are hooked up to identicle enclosed 11k trailers, the mileage is about 12.8 for the Ford and 12.5 for the GM, and the Ford is stronger by just the smallest amount when pulling the load, its also slightly more stable. When empty, the 11 GM is stronger. Hope this helps buddy. Call me if you have any Q's.
