I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a '02 Excursion with the 7.3 and just recently as I was driving along the engine just cut out...I was able to restart it and continue on.
It has happened 3 other times....could this be a fuel issue or
electrical? Any ideas where to start looking would help.
Thanks,
Tom

please post your vin#. That sounds alot like the cmp sensor. there is a recall on all DI 7.3 trucks for the CMP sensor. the problem (how it was explained to me) is that the engine wears over time. the CMP is a direct input for the IDM to control the injection system. the sensor is a hall effect and the beginning sensor was not strong enough (hall effect produces a magnetic field and im assuming they either mad the sensor longer or they increased its strength) the cam starts to walk a little when driving mostly while crusing for awhile. most customers complain of it dying on the highway and it starts right back up. there are usually codes in the system. think a p0348 (could be wrong though). ford saw it was a saftey issue to loose all power and recalled the trucks in waves. the recall is issued on all trucks but they send the owner letters out in waves to help keep stock of the replacement part and not to overload the dealer.

so, yeah... post the vin and if you have that recall open it is the best place to start.

and.. thats a sweet looking top gun you got there!

OH Yeah - I had forgotten about that. I'll throw a fresh coat of wax on it, load the cooler and get it delivered without delay :coolcowboy::coolcowboy:

Another thought I had (just trying to throw out some easy stuff) is that there have been several threads on some of the websites about the IPR nut on the back of the IPR backing off and causing intermittent running issues. Would take seconds to check into that.
