f250 with 5.4???

I probably already know the answer to this, but curious if anyone has any real world expierence?

My 2000 f150 with the 5.4 has served me well (bought it brand new) I beat this truck like it owes me something, and its finally catching up. Plow snow, haul way more then I should, and pull my 280 velocity (does a pretty good job)

but

Its getting tired, and either needs some $$$ put into it, or needs to go down the road. Ideally I'd like to find a crew cab 250 for what I do, and see quite a few for sale with the 5.4 (probably tells you something right there)

The 5.4 is great in my 150, but how is it in the bigger heavier truck?

thanks

I have one and pull a 7,000 pound boat.

I think the 5.4 is a dog and I only pull it from storage to the marina on mostly flat land. I can pull it with my Escalade with a 5.7 and it moves right along.

It won't like that 3000 extra pounds. Get the new diesel you'll be happier and the resale value will be much higher.

Agreed on the diesel. Its the extra 20K I have to find, thats the problem. :party-smiley-004:

Unfortunatley a "new" truck is not in the cards right now. My truck only gets about 5-6K miles put on it now, so Fuel mileage isn't much of a concern. I've been looking for 7.3's and V10's but most of them are crap, or the owners think they are worth their weight in gold. I'm in no hurry, but would like to have something in the next few months.

5.4 is a dog in the superduty. Barely pulls itself, let alone a trailer.

Get the V10. Its a reliable proven engine that makes good power. :drink:

I agree with the other responses on it being a dog! I had the 5.4 in an Expedition and it was great! Had one in a F250 and gutless. 97 expedition and 99 f250

Not to mention the cracked exhaust manifold problem every 10k miles

Jassman 01-20-2011 07:54 PM

and then there is the problem with resale...please dont do it..you will be very sorry when you even hook up to 6000 pounds..

Quicksilver 01-20-2011 08:12 PM

yeh as they said, a 5.4 can barely move an F-250 itself, I would not want to tow anything behind one, it's just gutless.

what do you mean by 20k extra, you can find plenty of cheap, nice condition 7.3's.... not sure why you keep seeing the crap ones. Did you look outside your area?

Ford has a new 6.2 gas I have heard it has lots of power.
