I retired my 2000 Excursion Limited V10 as my daily 4 yrs ago. Now I use it as my work truck at my business. Running to customers, suppliers and even plowing my parking lot. Truck still runs great. Only have done general maintenance only.

Bought my 2006 F250 3v V10 new ....91k miles...never been to the shop once...never even used the warranty...oil changes ..thats it ...runs fantastic

2005 limited excursion with 125k that has never been to the shop.Milage sucks but not that much worse than my 6.0 diesel.
we were going to sell the truck but its paid for and has never let me down. Honestly Im afraid of buying someone elses problems.I guess we will drive it till it dies! |
I have a supercharged F150 now that hauls ass, am I going to be disapointed in the V-10?When I got the 5.4l and realized it was so lazy I couldnt take it.. the blower had to go on.
A 7.3l can be modded to be pretty quick pretty cheap but I`m not a fan of the sound plus Diesel is more than premium now.. this is my dilemma |

I have 55k on a 2008 V10, smooth, quiet, good power...no brainer. The other option was a 5.4 V8...in a full size F250? No way.
It does not have the torque of my old 7.3psd, but it shouldn't be expected either. I get 9-13 mpg depending on driving city or highway. I don't have a boat anymore so I can't tell you about towing mileage but I wouldn't think it'd be too good. I'd buy the F250 and V10 again in a heartbeat, winning combination. BTW...it was only a $600 upcharge from the 5.4...another no brainer. |

If you really want to haul, Bank's makes a supercharger kit for the V-10 that REALLY wakes it up.

I drove two Excursions today.. 02 V10 and 05 6.0l
The V-10 is just too lazy for me, the Diesel had waay better get up and go but both were ALL over the road, I don`t remember an F-250 being like that....Did not like driving either one so I guess the wife doesn`t get the extra room she was hoping for. Theres some good deals on 5.4l F250s, I could take off my blower and throw it on that, it might satisfy the speed bug. Theres some decent 8.1l 2500 Avalanches I wonder how those motors are... |
My buddies have f150's as daily drivers. They do drive like a car compared to a superduty or excursion. Probably because the heavier duty trucks have solid front axles, heavier, stiffer suspensions which can make them jittery on bumpy roads, and the steering ratio isn't as tight as the half tons.
But when it comes to towing, they shine compared to a half ton. If power and acceleration is your thing, a chipped up diesel is the way to go...my 6.0 powerstroke hauled ass with the high performance tune! Ran neck and neck 0-60 against my girls 2007 mustang gt! Ya, she raced me....lol |
