Theres a 2005 chevy dually with 83k miles on craigslist. fully loaded, leather, etc. 8.1 gasser with the allison trans. Guy is asking 19500 obo. Looks like a nice truck! In aurora i think.
Obnoxus has one. he tows his 36 outlaw with it. He LOVES it compared to his 2500 single rear wheel truck towing the boat.

I have a 2004 Ford E350(van) V10. I must miss the 70's, cuz I'm a van guy. All the interior space on a 1-ton chassis is the shat.
One of the best all-around vehicles made, IMO. I bought my van in '05 w/ 25k miles. It now has 128k miles and zero issues. I use Motorcraft 5W20 oil in it and change it every 4k miles, fwiw. I've been told the transmissions typically go out around 100k. I had mine checked out and serviced and was told it looks great.I only tow a 21' toy hauler rv and my 28' Checkmate, so it's not seeing the duty some of you put a vehicle through. I think it pulls very well, but I'm sure it's nothing like a diesel (a 7.3, anyway). In 2004, the V10 was rated for 305hp/420lb-ft while the 6.0 was rated for low 200's and 440 lb-ft, I believe. I haven't driven a diesel much, but considering that high torque at such low rpm, I'm sure it pulls better.
When I was shopping for a barely used van, I researched a bunch and realized it would have taken another $8k to get the same van with a diesel. That was the market. It wasn't worth it to me and the V10 has been fine. Without a load behind it, I drive it like a jackazz. It gets out of its own way just fine.
We also have a '99 Ford Expedition with a 5.4 and that engine is gutless. The van feels like a hot rod after driving that thing.

After some discussion with magic man a 7.3l F250 is the way to go for me, unless I can pick up a decent Duramax. my budget sucks thou, I can do a boat payment or car payment but not both.
No need for a tow vehicle is theres no boat payment.. so there ya go

my buddy has a 6.0 diesel ford. In the past 5k miles, he has dumped about 3500 bucks into the motor. Smoked all injectors, EGR cooler was toast, and now his front hubs need to be replaced as they are frozen solid. They are 330.00 each, so there goes another 700 bucks. They are great trucks when you have a warranty and they are newer. But once the warranty runs out, and they get some miles on them, they can clear out the wallet quick with repairs.
1989 Chevy dually, paid 3k, put 4k miles on it, replaced brake pads, master cylinder, calipers, and wheel cylinders just because. Total parts were about 175 bucks. Needs a fan clutch and gonna do a complete tune up come spring. 150 bucks should cover it. Plus I can work on it myself. Granted its a old square body and doesnt look as cool as the new trucks, but as long as the a/c works Im happy! I got another toy that drains my wallet enough, and its hooked to the tow hitch

Looked at a new dodge dually at the auto show this week. It really got my pants tight. Then i thought about 50k+ price tag and payments. Made me wanna go put a coat of turtle wax on the old chevy.
