Have a 97 198k w/5.7 12-13 MPG, 05 208k w/5.3 13-14 mpg, wife has 08 135k W/5.3 (8-6-4) has a little more gear ratio 13-14 mpg. All are 4x4 Suburbans. 97 has 2 rear beanch seats and holds 8 people but a pain to get in the third seat. 05 has rear buckets and 3rd row bench (best combo) holds 7 people. 08 has rear buckets and 3rd row with 2 seats with cup holders in the center. Kids like the 05 best for long trips, one uses 2nd row and the other camps out in the 3rd row seat with more confort without the cup holders. No major issues with any of them. Have rented Tahoes and kids hated them, 3rd seat was unconfortable with leg room and didn't like the rear windows not going down all the way. Spoiled brats, I tell them about when I was a kid you sat in the back of a staion wagon looking out the rear window chocking on exhaust fumes.

Congrats Eric.....just saw the thread. Faith had 2 Suburbans, a 1998 til 2003, and a 2003 that is still in the driveway. Great vehicles.

The Tahoe/Suburbans are great vehicles. the 5.3 is a very good engine, good fuel mileage and power. If I were to buy a new SUV ir would be a 4wd Surburban. I just like the extra length but the Tahoe is essentially the same. Buy with confidence. Keep up with the maintenance and it will last much longer than you want to keep it.
