Wanted to chime in, I do not have an ecoboost f150. However I do have a 5.0 2011 373 f150. My friend purchased a 26 walkaround fishing boat last summer from new jersey. We used a borrowed triple axle steel trailer to bring it home. Assuming the trailer alone is roughly 2k pounds, the gas tank as we later found out was nearly full, 160 gallon tank. We figure all together we were pushing 8k lbs. With 3 large males in the truck we did 65mph for 3 hours and I was over impressed with how well the truck did. Obviously the truck is a 1/2 ton and I know they have there limitations, but the 1/2 ton truck segment is head and shoulders more capable then it was 10-15 years ago and if short distance 7-10k lbs is what you are trying to accomplish then the ecoboost is the perfect vehicle imo.

Last week I spent 3 days in a v8 F150 while my EB was in the hospital getting new cats.
The v8 smokes the tires better than the EB, however Enterprise speed limited this truck to 80 mph, which made for a lousy roll out when power braking. :coolcowboy::coolcowboy: |
Any of you EB owners have a weird A/C smell? Almost smells like a small leak when the compressor kicks on.
I've read some other guys have it, but never heard a solution or what caused it... |

Soldier I agree with the people switching to 1/2 ton for various reasons. Obviously a 3/4 ton or 1 ton is more capable. Also thought I would mention that the brand FORD, while known for making great trucks have had very little issues with there gasoline motors. Whether it be the older 5.0, 300 strait 6, 4.6, 5.8,5.4, 4.2...... they have all bin battle tested and run like a clock. However there diesels have had far more serious issues over the last ten years. Just an observation, not a cheap shot at the ford diesel motor. Especially because I was torn between that and what I ended up purchasing.

gas vs diesel
I just can't seem to get it right, I had a 2007 Dodge (5.9/pre-emissions) that averaged 17 mpg on my 20 mile commute (each way) to work. At todays price for diesel ($4.09 per gallon) it was costing me $.24 per mile for fuel only. I traded it in for a 2010 Dodge (6.7) and dropped to 13 mpg on the same commute. The finger pointing for the drop in mpg was the added emissions "garbage". At $4.09 per gallon this truck was costing me $.31 per mile. Due to the "lack of a NEED" for a diesel I figured that I would save some $$$ at the pump and go with a gasser. So I bought a 2012 Dodge 1500 (5.7 Hemi) which averages 13 mpg on my commute. At $3.79 per gallon the gasser costs me $.29 per mile. I don't know where Dodge came up with their mpg estimates on the Hemi but the bottom line is that I should have stuck with the pre-emissions 5.9 diesel which would be saving me $.05 per mile for fuel.

That is too bad . I will never give up my 1995 12 valve , no computer , 19 city 25 highway with 37 inch tall tires , moderate mods .

yeah that was the issues with the diesels after 08 they put the DPFs on which killed MPG and the capability was not out weighing the cost. Buddy had a 10 Dodge and did about the same on MPG, terrible. Chevy and Fords are both better. But i dont understand if you are getting the same MPG for both trucks and diesel is costing you 30 cents more a gallon how it was saving you .05 cents a mile? And you have to factor in maint cost. |
