Sooo what kind of deal can you get for us then?
The trans issue is known. Any F150 forum will have several guys nailed by it.

Havent seen may dealerships that sell Ford and GM product on the same lot. Curious where this dealership is?
The trans issue is with the pump, its been identified and fixed.
My experience in driving it and with the 2 owners I know is you can easily get the city mileage of 15 but the highway miles requires cruise and flat ground with minimal hills.
The disconnect seems to be with the sales people and the clients vs the window sticker and the clients.
Towing mileage - this is misleading, because the eco actually does something when you mash it in high gear when towing where the 5.4 doesnt.
I am personally willing to pay a towing mileage "penalty" to have actual towing performance available for passing on hills and in mountain areas and sustained climbs.

A lot of people are still breaking in these trucks too so they have low mileage where mpg will be worse, buddy is still breaking his, think the last trip he got around 12 towing his 29ft CC here in FL which imo is still great. The big difference with the Ecoboost, is the way it effortlessly maintains speed and passing power on the highway or through hills when towing, that makes competitors V8's feel like their struggling.

There is talk of a "break in map" that ford uses but that is unsibstantiated by them- people claim they see a mileage jump at 3500
You are correct about the feel when towing.
This is a huge deal where I live because of 2 major factors.
1 you are always climbing hills wherever you head. (mountains actually)
2. Its hotter than a whorehouse on dollar day where I tow and the heat KILLS NA trucks power when you combine it with the altitude. The eco maintains and sustains FULL power under these conditions.
I think a TT small V8 would be even neater.

They seem to loosen up after between 2& 3500

I don't think the Ecoboost will have a lot of mod potential, from what I understand Ford is using smaller turbo's on the F-150 vs other vehicles for almost instant spool and response with that flat torque band everywhere. And the ecu system and internals are different too I believe. I don't think the truck version will be showing the same gains the others do unless I'm wrong on the turbos size? But Ford has gotten strict with this engine, the ecu is encrypted and any type of mod even intake apparently voids the power-train warranty. But f' it, tune, intake, exhaust would be fun in this truck and even better mpg then it currently does.

Heres is one of the 2 EB F150's I have towed with. This wasn't really a "load" but this trip accompanied me and the toy hauler and we switched off.
My Titan makes 379FT lb of torque only 41 less on paper.
But let me tell you because of the way the EB build it low - it is a world of difference.
A smaller displacement TT V8 like a 4.0 would be an interesting compromise between worse mileage but better performance.

Turbo's can increase mpg as they increase efficiency (however lay into the throttle and they'll drink more then in n/a form lol), the 5.0 is actually not far off, pretty close mpg wise to the Ecoboost, the 6.2 drinks fuel like crazy though. Friend used to have a TT Escalade, and it got noticeably better mpg then stock, even people that have done turbo's to the SRT-8 Jeeps gained mileage, and even the STS setups on the F-150's.
TT 5.0 in an F-150 would be sick

I have the 6.2L in my 150 and it is a blast to drive! Fuel sucks but what do you do!

But for towing when you compare the area under the curve the EB is the clear choice.
