Compound turbo cummins. Methanol injection and everything else I could throw at it. Off idle it makes over 580 ftlbs.
I can't use throttle on a ramp

Two weeks ago after some rain all 4 wheels were spinning and I could not get the boat out, had to get people to jump on the tongue to get it out.
I use 4W Low 99% of the time.

I guess it depends on the size of your boat too. Anything over a 27'...I'd definately want the ability to put it in 4 wheel drive. I cant see a guy with a 18' open bow Bayliner needing it.

I have it, and wouldn't dare to NOT have it. That being said I have never once put the truck in 4WD at the ramp.

I once saw a guy in a 2wd pickup try to get up a wet ramp. His solution was to have a boat driver push the truck with the boat until the drive left the water. This gave him just enough momentum to spin tires the rest of the way up the ramp.

I rarely need 4wd on a ramp, but it only takes once to make it worthwhile.

You never need it until you do.

Then you either stepped up, or you are on the cell phone begging for help with your wallet open parked on the ramps annoying everyone until someone saves your Azz.

Rain & low tide are the most common reasons I have found to "hit the switch".

Seems like every time I am pulling out it's at low tide....4 wheel drive is a must. Sometimes if it's low tide I will launch mine in 4 wheel to be safe. I have had to pull up a few times when I lost traction with all 4 wheels locked up on a slick ramp. The whole rig...truck trailer and boat would have gone in without all four wheels spinning forward to get up the ramp!!!!

A 255 Formula with twins on a steel trailer is HEAVY !!!

My tow is a 2007 F150 SuperCrew KR 4 x 4 with 5.4 and trailer package. I am rated to tow 9200 lbs but I wouldn't try to ramp a boat that heavy. I figure my rig loaded is around 7500 lbs.

I have limited slip w/3:73 gears on both axles.

Duramax crew and 353 on an Eagle triple.
21K lbs.
4HI at the min. everytime.
All it takes is 1/2 a revolution of tire spin to throw a loose stone off the trailer or boat.
Why would you even consider not pulling up in 4WD if it's there?
